Pre season 86/87

[VLC86]

Hi all,

 

this is a bit of a random one. I have acquired a match worn shirt from the above season which I believe to be from a pre season match and I’m wondering if anyone has a record anywhere of our pre season fixtures for that season and what kits we wore in each.

 

Bit of a long shot but I know some of you are practically dinosaurs so hopefully someone remembers.

Don't know the kits but these are the friendlies.

Ah yes I’ve got it, was looking on that seasons fixtures.

Maybe the standard of opposition in the league was a little higher than TSV Auetal; but yeah!

I met a bloke from Lubeck in Chapel St Leonards years back who invited me to see his team after drinking at "The Container", wish I could have bust out the knowledge we'd played them in a friendly in 1986.

See,  all the European super league teams needed to do is mark the games down as ‘ friendlies’ tell everyone they were going back to the 80s and played the games in July/ august and they would have got away with it!

That is an absolutely mental list. 

 

Casual summer tour of Sweden, bomb home to play Gloucester then off to Germany. 

 

Then later games in Saudi, Qatar and Spain wtf.

It's fascinating reading through the friendlies section of Fossils & Foxes. Some weird and wonderful opponents.

It’s quite pleasing in a way - that list of friendlies could easily be taken from my Champ Man / Football Manager gaming marathons from yesteryear.
