Interesting update from the Birmingham chairman about their new sports quarter development. Talks to the camera, lays down what’s happening and how. Americans just do this kind of thing right

There are a lot of factors enabling them to do this. Mostly the major infrastructure investment in the city itself. Sadly Birmingham if they maintain their current investment and trajectory will be possibly be a mainstay once they reach the Prem, should they make the correct decisions around their club management.

Yep. Americans know what they’re doing with stuff like this

So you missed his bit about moving domestic games to America then. Careful what you wish for. I lived in the US for 17 years went to many sporting events including season tickets to the MLS while still traveling fortnightly to Leicester often. Let me tell you the American Sports Business Leaders interest is only to rape football for media dollars. Supporters are the last thing on their minds.

They've dug a few holes not sure if they're for foundations or graves.

Interesting mock up (not official) of the planned new birmingham city stadium.

I See Forest have had their plans approved also, we were years ahead of these guys a couple of years ago. Building costs and building materials are too high. So how can these guys afford it? Just the owners putting their money where their mouth is?

I think its been recommended for approval, i think the actual decision might be tomorrow, but all signs are pretty positive for it to be granted.  But these days it doesn't mean it will definately happen, we know that from our own plans that were approved some time ago.  Given our relegation and the financial plight of the owners ours won't be happening anytime soon.  It will be ineteresting to see if forest do overtake us as far as capacity goes, and the huge development that is proposed in Birmingham is incredibly exciting for them.  We've had our day in the sun, maybe they'll have theres?

Difference between asset rich and cash rich.

Only have to look at how KP was worth a few hundred mil to 4.5 billion and what they are worth now.

May as well close the thread. What an opportunity, pissed into the wind.

Agreed. I can't see this happening in a month of Sundays now. Would have been out of this world had it happened.

I wouldn’t give up so easily. Things look crap now, but club itself is still an exciting proposition to any potential investor/buyer.

There is trophy recency bias. The facilities are fairly attractive. King Power have acquired all of the land near the stadium which if the permission is extended somehow would still represent a good opportunity for development.

Look at how fast it’s turned around for Birmingham. Things are going well over there at the moment, but it doesn’t necessarily mean they’re going to be on a mad climb all the way.

As for Forest as we know, you’re only as good as your last window/season and this will be a massive challenge for them. Before we start really rocking in the corner let’s just wait and see how things play out.

Don’t you mean it won’t happen under king power

Those two late season collapses under Rodgers, where we just missed out on champions league, have wrecked everything. It's just been a downhill spiral since then. That big 'what if' when it comes to the impact of covid just when we were flying and on course for top 4 cannot be understated.

We've got lovely fat farm in Seagrave though.

Has plenty of bedrooms, maybe the club could consider leasing it to the government as a migrant camp to help with psr? 🤔

At the very least the existing stadium badly needs TLC. The toilets needed drainage work at the end of last season, the seats are incredibly faded, parts of the roof are leaking (the skylights). 25 years is a decent life span really without major capital on the outright structure. If you visit it when it's empty, it's starting to look tired.

Given how dire things are for King Power right now, this development seems a perfect opportunity to diversify their portfolio and move into other markets. Not that Leicester in this day and age is much of a draw, but if they can show they can turn profit on the hotel and entertainment complex, it'd be a good testbed for the company to stop relying on dodgy duty free to stay afloat?

Ah, caught myself having an optimistic thought there, I'll go sit in the naughty corner. It's not like the people in charge have the brains to be proactive.

Agreed but can't see them doing anything about it.  It just goes to show how the SGSA must have had for them to install 'safe standing'.  I very much doubt they did that because they wanted to do it for the fans.

The toilets have been worked on and the seat's have been individually cleaned (within tbe time limits the staff have had),  unfortunately through the faded ones have not been replaced or only some of them have

Extending the ground has **** all to do with champs league though. The difference is the Birmingham owners actually have ambition and a proper strategy
