I haven’t read the whole thread, but no I don’t believe people as a whole are awful.

Have a look at the Homeless thread on here, when an anonymous Fox was suffering a hard time, many on here gathered around and made sure he had everything he needed, including a few quid in his back pocket to get him back on his feet.

In my experience that is the majority of people, of course within society there are selfish, rude and deplorable people, but these are in the minority.

I do believe we are at a time where we want to look for the worst in people, look at anyone who does good, people in both mainstream media and social media look to bring them down. however, If you can ignore social media and it’s attention seekers and have a look around your community, work place, etc. you will see the vast majority of us are willing to roll our sleeves up when a fellow human is in need of support.

I'd agree. Which is why I believe in Jesus as opposed to works based religions.

As a matter of interest - how long have you been a Christian?

I was hoping reading through this I would see worse than my own experience but alas no :(

So me me and the Mrs went on holiday a few years back and took a day trip to a local historic memorial ... We parked up walked along the train track and I stood in awe standing before the entrance to the place that I had seen so many times in books and documentaries ....... In front of my pushed a couple the bird was glammed up the the gills, her fella popped out his camera and took about 30 shots of the cretin, arse out, duck face, v for victory, over the shoulder poses the fvcking lot, I looked around and there was about 10 other people doing the same tasteless crap.

The monument was the entrance to, wait for it ... Auchwitz! They were trying to get the prefect shot of them standing in the entrance of the tunnel that that Nazi trains drove 1000000 incident Jewish murder victims through ..... Search #Auchwitz on Instagram you will see what I'm talking about within 20 posts

people are scum!

Thanks for the response - that's what I thought. As I recollect and correct me if I'm wrong, you were an atheist prior to this, yes? I'm intrigued to know what precipitated the conversion? Was is a sudden realisation/epiphany from within? an external event or sequence of events in your life? - influence of those around you? a preacher? or a specific church itself? As a matter of interest, what denomination are you?

I’m very conflicted about the ‘everybody is awful’ thing. When I sit at home and grumble, I’m of the opinion that I hate everybody, but when I’m actually out and about and meeting people, I tend to get on with most.

The reality is that everybody is on a sliding scaled of shìtness. IMO I’m about 6% of a shìt. People who through rocks at ambulances are probably about 98% shìt. People who abuse dispensing optometrists for no reason are probably about 65% shìt.

Yeah, I'm sure you could dig up posts on here from me arguing with religious people.

My conversion was a long drawn out process. To briefly summarise:

- Raised in very secular family. And grew into an ardent atheist in my early twenties.

- Started to examine the Gospel and arguments for God.

- Found myself really liking Jesus (as a character in a book rather than an actual person). I struggle to see how anyone could read the new testament and not like him.

- Found that my worldview presupposed a theistic worldview but found the idea of becoming religious repulsive

- God chiselled at my heart and softened me up to the message of the gospel.

- Believed it but loved the sin I was living in and didn't want to change.

- Realised that Salvation supplants sin and decided to give my life to Christ.

- After becoming a Christian I went through some torrid hardships (beravement etc)

- Was sustained and transformed by the grace of God.

-Continue to be so and thank God for that.

I go to a charasmatic church however subscribe to a fairly reformed doctrine.

Honestly wasn't my intention. Genuinely interested.
