Even by my standards these rules seem a little harsh however the PL could learn a thing or two from this - I have to admit there’d have to be a little bit of a twist to these set of rules and be slightly more lenient but generally, a get on with it mantra.

Because the continent deserve their most prestigious sports tournament and all over the world no other evens are being cancelled.

The Euros was shifted a whole year back mate

And the African cup of nations ....

Playing it during covid peaks and the western season is just silly imo. Nothing more nothing less regardless of what some people are coming out in the media saying.

Covid is here to stay mate, if we keep putting things off we will never get anything done imo, the fans are protected as best they can be as are the athletes.

Wholeheartedly agree, the other events you mention though weren’t played during peaks is all I’m saying. It just seems silly to play during that and the busy period of the European season, taking players out of bubbles etc. As the positive cases turning up to the tournament prove.

It really isn’t down to a lack of respect. If it makes things easier I wince when I see our Belgium lads called up. It’s full respect for our AFCON boys because they are the backbone of our team atm.

That is very harsh but I guess there's no room to rearrange fixtures. Rarely is in international tournaments. It's harsh because no one can control the virus but then I guess it's a way of a) ensuring teams stick to protocols and b) making sure the tournament continues on time. I doubt clubs would want the tournament extended anyway.

So you have the original 3 (Papy, Sarr, Thiam), the other 3 announced earlier, and now another 3 players out

They are meant to be playing on Monday... and down to just 1 keeper left with 2 part of the 9 out

Not taking much for Covid to rip through their squad

The potential for players to get injured with that 11 man rule is crazy. There's a reason why you have a tournament squad. Particularly with games in such a short space of time

Proper Sunday pub rules in play here!! 😂. If you have got 11 you play, even if 1’s not a keeper!!! They just need to do what my pub team used to when we were short, ring round for some ringers!!

You just had to hope one didn’t get sent off if they were playing under your name!! 😂😂

It's being played during this period this year because FIFA didn't want it played in the summer as that would deny players a break b4 the WC.

Just like the Euros and the Olympics, it was shifted a year back (hence why it's officially AFCON 2021), while the tournament itself had also previously been moved from its traditional early-year schedule to the European summer months to accommodate the European seasons (albeit some European seasons have a winter break during the period and some are in their off-season), despite that move substantively meaning that it would fall in some of the most inclement weather conditions in many parts of the continent. Given that they've made substantial accommodations, it's hardly onerous that we make some ourselves.

They expanded this year's squads to 28 players. If a squad is only down to 11 players, perhaps it's better to just forfeit.
