And who is to say that Cags and Youri aren't being treated differently? We've heard Rodgers publically praise one and criticise the other. Who's to say that's not leading to, and/or causing, any supposed difference in behaviour? I see Cags as quietly biding his time until he moves on. I've not heard of him complaining or bad mouthing anyone (one enigmatic comment aside)

I'd be surprised if we ever hear Cag's side, or ever know what the issue is/was. You don't get frozen out for ever and a day for pulling out of one tackle.

I said this long ago , that if Rodgers dumbed UNDER , how would cags take as they were best friends, it’s seems that was about when the fallout began . 🤔🤔🤔🤔

Our option to buy Under was 20m bit steep to keep cags happy.

Such a big assumption there though

Does ANYONE actually know why Cags is so out of favour?

Then he is incredibly weak in the head and not of the right mentality to be a pro-footballer as it is hardly unusual

I'm sure someone does. Whether anyone on FT does is another matter. I reckon what Rodgers says could well be true as the outcome of this things (i.e. Cags not training well, or whatever the words were) but there's a story as to how we've gotten there. I suspect we won't ever know the whys of that.

I'm no Rodgers fan but I wouldn't have played Soyuncu either.  He was making mistakes, serious ones, every game and the entire team were nervous when he was on the ball.

Perhaps another coach can get the best out of the lad but let's not pretend he wasn't pony and trap when he got dropped.  He was a bomb threat.

I do take your point about the fact he's never really been given another chance, which is a Rodgers classic, but I remain unconvinced by him as a player.

...Soyuncu's salary is a strange one!!!

Never sought to improve it and other players around him were getting better deals,  but he was not pushing for the same. What does that say about his mentality,  is he weak in not willing to ask for the increase, is it a gentleman's agreement, that he chose not to do so.

He just has not recovered from the Cruyff turn (that he did every game, as a superstitious move) which ended up as a goal to the opposition. Hard to think that a ritual that you have done in your professional life, is now a liability to the team and takes away your confidence on the ball.

We took his aggressive action of coming through the back of his attacker out of his game, he probably feels neutered,  but this overly aggressive action would always have got the team in trouble with him on constantly being on a yellow card, waiting to turn red.

He needs that balance in his game, and carry on Cruyffing away.

Cags has been pushing for a new contract for about 3 seasons hence we are in the situation we are now. We clearly didn’t want to give him one due to his meltdowns.

...can't see that as the case!!!

When he took over from Maguire we would have sought to look to tie him down. His first meltdown was against Bournemouth, a few seasons ago, but he could have pushed to get out the door if we had refused to entertain the idea.

At times he has looked World Class, we would have sought to improve his contract.

So you recon he’s been sat there happy on 40k a week watching us dish out mental contracts to the entire squad yet he’s going to sign for a club on a free to, wait for it, ensure he gets a higher wage packet?

Tanner in the Athletic suggesting that the contract offer to Soy may be genuine given the cost of buying a CB and our injury issues, but adds it's too late as he's going in the Summer at the latest.

We all know he's off but if the above is true, it's a worrying sign about our forward planning.

The club can't afford so many players to run their contracts down, Rudkin has got big questions to answer.

It appears a club of our profile sadly has to sell one major asset each summer.

Absolutely mad tbh. The well run club narrative has taken a battering recently hasn't it.

Yep, smacks of complacency to me. Let's hope the club are getting it's act together.

I think the ship's long since sailed and would be frankly surprised if the club made any more noise about contract renewal. I reckon Cags wants away and has done for some time. If the club can get any sum in Jan then I reckon they ought. Get him off the books and move on.

Yeah, that's what I still think too. The rumour of agreeing a deal with Atleti was leaked months ago so suspect he had agreed terms with them, and that upset the club who decided he wasn't as committed so stopped playing him. Wouldn't be surprised if Soy has made more of the injuries he's had as he wants to protect his move.

Put it out there that we’ve offered him contract, club who wants him free in summer come in during January and offer us a couple of million for him. Off he goes.

Biggest load of old chuff I have heard for a while, only way I could see this being true is if there is a genuine chance that Brendan is on his way out of the club, otherwise why would Cags even consider extending his stay at a club where the manager flatly refuses to use him unless absolutely forced to.

You have to think we will start to rectify this situation moving forward.

In some ways it was admirable trying to 'keep the band together' but it just hasn't worked.

Maddison is a prime example.  I'd love him to sign a new deal and stick around.  But if he hasn't signed one by the summer (which let's face it seems most likely) we need to sell him whilst he still has value.

With player power at an all time high I don't see what choice selling clubs have beyond making sure they cash in in a timely fashion.  If that means losing one or even two big assets in a summer then I don't see much alternative.

Agree. Only the elite clubs can avoid this scenario.

West Ham are perhaps having similar regrets now - there's only so long you can compete with the very top clubs unless you make Champions League.

Seems that way now. The spend to bridge that gap is just too much for most clubs. Even we're not in that league and our owners are hardly poor.
