Managed my fastest parkrun of 2024 today over in Wolverhampton. Really annoyed at myself as I didn’t have time to do a warm up and I then stayed behind another runner for too long.

Just over 90 seconds over my 2019 PB so I’m hopeful I can get back near there soon.

New trainer day as well….went with the Nike Zoom Fly 6. Impressed with them today and for the first time in a long time the legs felt good.

Good stuff. Great way to start a day.

I'm about to change a poonami baby and cry myself to sleep whilst she screams at me lol

Oh bless ya pal, I remember those days.

I managed 21.03 at Worcester this morning, pancake flat course. Well pleased, it's my 3rd fastest parkrun ever and fastest for ages.

I did 22.20 this morning. Keep chipping away at the pb. That’s a bloody good time you’ve done there.

Newark PR here for me today. 24.20

It’s a nice course but the 3 laps is a head doer and there’s a couple of hills which push you hard. Went off too quicker (trying to aim at 24 subs at the mo) - 3rd lap the tank was suffering.

Straight off to a vegan food market for the other half afterwards. She patiently sat in the car, avoiding the cold.

Alton Towers half today. Deceptively killer course. Lots of bottlenecks, very up and down, many obstacles. And it was damp.

1:55. Better than expected but it's definitely a race that attracts less able. There's also a 5k and there were people walking it after 2km. Unreal.

I'd lined this up to do this year but had something on, glad I've read this as I'll chalk it off next years plan an'all 😂😂

That's a decent time though pal given what you've described so well done!!!

Planning on running from Canary Wharf to Wembley(ish) tonight after work and forgot to pack any gels with me.

Any advice on some supermarket available alternatives to get me through the last few kms?

Just have some jelly beans near the end, or if you’re near a Holland and Barrett they’ll sell some sort of running gel.

As noted - jelly babies, etc. I have those nature valley oat bars for big runs. Usually around mile 5/ 50 minute mark (depending on where you're at)

And there's no chance I'd do Alton Towers half again. Absolutely none. They also badly managed numbers and didn't open rides until 1pm, so if you were someone who completed the 5k in 35 mins, you'd have had over 2 hour wait for them to even open rides.

Did Saturday Parkrun a second slower than my PB the week before, finishing in 24:12. Frustrating!

Ran 10K easy run Sunday morning to get over it, did it in 56 minutes at my 'easy pace' which is great, because 4 weeks ago my ;easy pace' probably would have got me round in about an hour. Good to see the fitness levels increasing!

Mods delete if not allowed, anyone who wants to give a couch to 5k ago or anyone who wants to back into running. We are an extremely friendly club and are happy for all ages and levels to join. Nobody runs alone is what we pride ourself on, unless you want to of course. Feel free to drop me a line if you want more info.

Fairly happy with this. 1 hr 52 in grotty conditions and London traffic to contend with. It's becoming quite clear though that I don't think I have a marathon in me and that might be fine.

Half's are about the optimum before it gets properly unpleasant.

I don't think I have a marathon in me either. I'm type 1 diabetic and yeah, there's quite a few professional athletes also type 1 diabetic (though very very few runners), so it can be done but the effort that would need to go into moderating/changing insulin, diet etc for Marathon training and then Marathon running would be far too stressful for me to make it remotely enjoyable.

I'll probably top out at halves and I'll be happy with that if I can get decent times.

Conversely part of me thinks ultras would be easier for a type 1 diabetic than trying to chase a fast Marathon time, especially with hiking/walking aspects and how much easier that makes it to fuel with proper solid foods on the go.

Never say never though.

With the times you are running half’s in you definitely could do a marathon, I’m not saying it will be the most enjoyable run of your life though.

If you would be happier just getting the distance done regardless of time I recon you would surprise yourself.

Just done my first run in over 2 weeks due to a broken rib/holiday.

Felt a little bit like the fat lad from The Simpsons but did 5k in 23.11.

Im with you here. Think Ric is suffering a bit from being early in this running 'career'.

Just keep chipping away - long training runs are supposed to be slow and work wonders.

I ran a 52 min 10k this Sunday attempting a sub 50 and it's possibly the most overworked I've been in a long time.

Just to echo what others have said, I think a marathon would be achievable. I normally run halfs anywhere between 2hrs-2.15

I did my first marathon this spring, no pressure about times just wanted to finish.

Its mainly a mental race, the training will get you used to being on our feet for the length of time.

One thing I would say though is that the training is a lot to commit to and it can be all-consuming the closer to the day you get.

Did a very slow 5km this morning, although the first km was basically ice skating

Ditto

Feckin hate when it's this cold, and when it's too warm.

If every Run could be 8-14c I'd be loving life.
