I looked at doing that as my lad has a free week from football so was keen to get into a race somewhere.

Looked at the 40mph winds forcasted at race time and thought 'No chance!' lol

Is it that bad? 😂😂😂 what a daft twat.

Tbf, this time last year I ran a marathon in Snowdonia in a storm and my work colleague is doing the same on Saturday so it could be worse.

Edit: it’s not that bad, 20 MPH.

Signed up for the Rugby half at the weekend. Weather looks horrendous but I need to do a long run so thought I may as well do an event.

Ahhhhh enjoy Onley Lane

Bad one? In standard me tradition, I have no idea what the course is like.

It’s mind numbingly boring…the rain will make it more interesting though.

Haha sounds like a blast.

I need a long run tomorrow anyway so I’m sure it’ll be better than doing it on my own.

Turns out Rugby is very hilly. That was a proper struggle this morning, with the wind thrown in for good measure.

Still got my 3rd fastest half marathon which is a bit of a shock considering the circumstances, and having dropped a 60kg weight on my ribs in mid week.

I wouldn't say the worse but not my favourite. I get why people really like it because it's a decent vibe at the start/finish

However, it's two laps of 10 miles on hilly country roads. The villages turn out for the first lap and then they are bored by the second lap.

Mentally if you crack Ashby 20 though, you'll do a marathon which is the aim for a lot of folk in their training programmes.

I look back on it this year, I wasn't ready for it mentally in my own circumstances which probably didn't help the whole experience for me.

Had probably my best session of the year on Saturday...decent paced long run that felt so comfortable.

Then barely 24hrs later I'm struck down by a horrendous stomach bug and had to take the last 2 days off, even the thought of walking to the kitchen to get a drink was too much on Monday! Not sure I've ever felt so drained.

Feeling a lot better so looking forward to getting back at it today...should be a bit lighter at least lol

Oh, yeah 2 laps of the same course can be problematic- I had similar with Rugby at the weekend.

Warwick half marathon is around the same time so I recon I’ll end up doing that.

Think I’ve got a bit of time on the sidelines. I dropped a weight on my ribs in the gym (second time in a year) last week and it felt alright when I did the Rugby half but since then I’ve been in trouble with it.

Hopefully it heels quickly and I’m still tempted to see if I can get away with doing a 5k tonight but deep down I know that’s a pretty bad idea.

Looking at an overseas autumn marathon next year to go with Brighton at the start of April.

Entered the ballot for Berlin but that's unlikely so whittled it down to either Warsaw (same weekend as Berlin), Frankfurt or Amsterdam (end of October) or a really low key marra like Parma or Verona.

Thanks mate, that’s just given me the kick up the arse to register for Berlin as well.

Verona would be great, stunning city.

Last 4 weeks done 15k, 15k, 16k and then today 17k on my long runs.

all my longest ever distances at the time.

building up to HM but legs very tired going round today, so wondering if I need to taper for a bit then just do 21k

Yep you’ll need too. You’ll have a dip in performance now.

Did 150 miles last month. Really chuffed as I have recovered from an injury and it’s not resurfaced through targeted stretching. Will do less in November but have a good chunk of December off work, so going to aim for about 175 miles.

Nice 9 miler down the canal this morning. My rib still isn’t great but it feels alright until I stop which isn’t too bad.

About 140 miles left for the year to do 1000.

Thanks - this is also the end of a 16 week period where I've hit every single run (3 runs per week, easy 5Kish, hard/interval session, long run) 48 out of 48 runs.

So I'm thinking I'll take 30-50% off my total weekly mileage, cut out speed work, for a couple of weeks, then do HM.

Does that sound about right?
