SQUAD STATUS

There's a familiar topic arising as the season draws to a close, and that's how do we improve for next season. A topic perhaps some what premature this season with the

disappointment among supporters and the doubts surrounding Brendan Rodgers being the man to take us forward. There will be plenty of names discussed, both on the wish list, and the bin list.

With mention of an 'Overhaul', there is much to discuss in terms of who is likely to depart. To help add some facts and realism to this discussion, i have

tried to compile the below regarding our current squad. Selling a football player is not like selling a car with the lengthy, lucrative and sometimes frustrating contracts.

Just for discussion really, Any contracts that are surprising, players likely to renew or not baring in mind contracts etc etc

Ryan Bertrand | 32yrs | Contracted Until 2023

Timothy Castagne | 26yrs | Contracted Until 2025

Ricardo Periera | 28yrs | Contracted Until 2026

James Justin | 24yrs | Contracted Until 2026

Midfielders

Wilfred Ndidi | 25yrs | Contracted Until 2024

Why the hell does Danny Ward still have 3 years left on his contract?

£12mil and probably millions in wages for a Championship-level keeper to get splinters in his bottom from sitting on the bench.

Didn’t realise Amartey was out of contract at the end of the season. Thought he has another year left

This young squad narrative he wheels out is a load of tom tit an'all, most of his squad are 3 years older than when he inherited it and when he had us fearless and beating anyone.

That's a squad all coming into their peak, yet we were so off this year. We need a refresh with an influx of 20-22yr olds breaking through.

We had the worst injury crisis I can ever remember, and targeted mainly in defence. But somehow, it shouldn't matter and we should still finish top 4.... it reminds me of when Liverpool put a load of kids out against villa in the caraboa Cup, and lost, and people were like 'but its Liverpool', like having 18 year old Jimmy replace van dijk for a game shouldn't fundamentally alter the quality of the team.

Contract lengths dont look healthily maintained to me.

Problem you have when having a largely successful squad together for a few years is it's difficult to keep giving them pay rises as well as bring new players in and sell those no longer wanted. I've long said our model of trying to move successful players on was the key to reinvesting and keeping enough flexibility to re-jig the squad but we've hit a ceiling in recent years and found it quite difficult to do the business ess we want to do.

You've missed Mendy, but he's done this summer isn't he? I don't think we'll look that different in September but I think next September this will be a very, very different team.

I wonder if Rudders is scouring the Internet right now looking for the contact number of the Amazonian Deforestation Corporation?

It has already been stated on this thread that it is nonsense to say we have a young squad after his 3+ years at the club.  It is about time some of the media start calling him out for the excuses he comes out with, I just know he would swerve his way out of it, by stating that it is a young squad in terms of mentality.  That is Rodgers for you, he's has a bit of a snake oil salesman about him, that is why us fans don't warm to him.   I could imagine him being one of those double glazing/insurance salesman promising you the earth if you sign along the dotted line.

Yeah, and poor Top is the 90 year old with dementia that lives alone and just falls for it every time.

We did manage to downsize Logan's bench so that saved us a little bit of money.
