The Fox Fanzine

The postman has just been and delivered the  latest Fox Fanzine.

Sadly, it appears this is the final edition.

I have grown up with it, it is 35 years old, and is a credit to the lads, now men, that put the work in to provide such a brilliant and real record of LCFC culture.

All is not lost however as it looks like they will continue to produce an annual magazine, which I encourage all to support as when you are old and wrinkly, having something physical to remind you of all this will be priceless. Trust me.

Well done them, I say.

Up the City!

Dacades later, I still think occasionally about the "Fanatical Frank" cartoon when he won the lottery, bought the club, brought himself on to play and it ended in tears. lol

I think that I must've bought virtually every copy since the start. Sadly don't have them now due to a couple of house moves, loft clearances etc. My favourite was 30,40,50 Something series as it was tracking my life. Still get emotional reading the one about the night we won the Premier League.

Some great interviews that couldn't be found anywhere else especially during the pre-Internet days. Foxed in the head always a laugh.

The missus always knew that I'd be hidden away for a while once that dropped on the mat.

Thanks for the memories.

Unforgettable.

Shame, loved the fox, always has great content.  Fanatical frank was great, and his mate part time Pete lol I’ve still got the special they did somewhere, simply frank I think it was called. And the sketch they used to do of filbert street with the carling stand towering way above it in the clouds still makes me chuckle now.

Its about due but its still sad news. I doubt there's many of the original late 80s football fanzines still going and the fact The Fox lasted so long speaks to its quality. Think I own all but 2 issues since 1992. It's peak was very much In the 90s particularly in terms of its humour which was very much in the Skinner and Baddiel Fantasy Football league vibe. The ormondroyds nose cartoon series was genuinely amazing as were the early fanatical frank strips. Footballs explosion into the mainstream, the rise of the internet and of course the creators just getting older eventually did for its more anarchic 90s edge but it could still produce decent articles and interviews to this day. It's been an integral part my being a city fan for 30 years and I will miss it.

Anyone remember the short lived Where’s the Money Gone in the Little/McGhee era? Remember getting that one back in the day

Yes I remember, it was very funny. I remember a joke about Stuart Pearce getting a tattoo on his cock....and the forest goalie straining a calf....

Yes.I’ve got a couple of copies somewhere.I remember an interview where Martin George was trying to explain that basically there was no money. The plan was to slowly build up the team with 500/to 1 mill players.Villa had the 1.75 million Earl Barrett sat on the bench so still a way to go.

I think one of the founder members was a guy called John Regan. His son was Englands officiall photographer(Michael).

I worked with Kohns other son, and they are a top family. John  is like Leicesters Del Boy!!

That's a shame. Always bought the one before the start of the season. Hopefully they'll still doing that one when they mean annual?

I bought about 20 of these at a car boot last year, two daughters were selling their dad's lcfc collection and these were in the bundle.

Had a flick through and it's fair to say the content it... Well, it's of its time. I'm pretty sure some of it would cause outrage if it was published today. One issue spends a lot of time discussing the love life of our favourite DJ, too.

Yeah I can imagine that's the case. I don't remember much about it, but I can imagine there were a lot of poor taste jokes about David Oldfield for example.

I remember there was good cartoon inside of a Leicester fan trying to get tickets for the away trip to Southend during the league one promotion season. Being told the tickets were sold out and having to sit with the home fans, during the half time he ends up beating up the Southend mascot and stealing his costume and sneaking into the away end that way.

The Ormondroyd's Wife stuff was hilarious. Footballers these days would need a week in rehab if they experienced that sort of abuse.

I was only talking about the Fox the other day and how I hadn't seen Gary flogging it on Raw Dykes for a few matches. If it is done for good it's an incredible written record of all things City for the last 35 years and he also knocked out some cracking memorabilia on the side too. Used to love all the Russ Carvell cartoons of the 90s squads.
