Daka is very much one of those players who can just score out of nothing which is exciting. Needs to inprove his overall game still

His performance was, for me, one of the pluses of the night. I can now actually see the Vardy replacement in him  (not just player, but team shape and style) Last season, I think he maybe struggled a little, often not helped by team selection.

In fact, I'd go further. Based only on the 2 halves, I'd say Daka is closing in on the nod over Vardy. Thing with Vards is though, cometh the hour cometh the man; it's his very nature to seem subdued and then just grab that half chance - he's done it so often. He's pure striker.

I am thinking daka is on the right road.  Vardy is a great finisher.  Daka needs that belief.

Praet and Soumare very good. Maddison, Evans, Fofana, KDH all looking sharp. Someone who really needs to start to get going is James Justin. Thought he was quite poor and sloppy at times last season defensively, got his England call up more on his form pre injury and had an average to poor debut there, and thought he was really sloppy in possession last night. Needs to start stepping up now

Agree re James Justin, think he is a wonderful player with bags of talent and potential but seems to be really struggling since his injury which is understandable.

Just felt he made a lot of loose and under hit passes last night, maybe being a bit harsh but we know just how good he was pre injury. Here's to hoping he can hit those levels again 🤞

Would say as well the first half very much had the performance of a set players not that much into their pre season compared to the second half team who are nearly two weeks further ahead

Fans wanting to see more from Barnes other than scoring goals, creating goals and freeing up space in other areas of the park because teams know what he can do are thr equivalent of trying to sell rustlers burgers at a vegan recipe book launch.

This is his game, he frustrates, he can often look like he's not performing or certainly not progressing and yet he's still one of our most reliable and dangerous players. Could he be better? Yes of course but at what's he good at more than what he's not good at. Fans saying he's a one trick pony, that's because that trick is a nightmare for teams to play against if they are stretched and out of position. His ability to go past players is through space and momentum and not through skill and guile. He's not that sort of player and it's as much the team need to play faster and more dynamic football to open the game up to get Barnes at his devastating best as it is for him to be better at mixing up his attacking play.

He's often criticised for being greedy but 3 years ago he was being criticised for being a poor finisher and supplier in the final third. He's improved both through hard work and determination and a mindset that he needs to be greedier and put the ball away for the team. I don't think you get that side of Barnes by expecting something else from him, there is limitations to his game and that's OK as he's still a very important and excellent player for us.

yeah, don't know what he has to do to impress tbh, lots of goals and assist, probably will get even better and he still gets criticism, where as Albrighton has looked pretty poor in the last 2 games, hardly scores or assists but I forgot we won the league with him so that's OK.

That said, he does need to work on his movement. There was a noticeable difference when Vards came back in to the side. He's always making the right runs and finding the right spaces in the box and Daka needs to develop that if he wants to make easier for the team to find him.

....watching him yesterday, he does not hold the attention of the defenders!!!

It is almost as if he is not a person of interest to them, and it might as well be anyone out there moving in front of their backline. You just wonder if he picked a defender to work against, where he looks to spin the defender or try and get across the defender by playing on the half turn. He is more effective as a decoy or spare man as opposed to a genuine threat up front.

We will continue to bring him on in a Vardyesque way, but playing the way we do in a possession-based game, I do not believe it suits him, we need to be playing a high tempo in order to use his pace.

Thanks LCFC TV for the coverage.

I enjoyed watching the match, I thought Soumaré and Maddison had good games, Barnes looked good at times. Absolute relief when Fofana put his boot back on and started running around, I guess the awful injury from last year got into his head when he went down and reacted the way he did. My main gripe is the way we p155 about in our own box, any better team would have had 2 goals off of us. After Daka scored the next 3 times he had the ball he passed it backwards when it was easier to go forwards...why?

...Rodgers is looking for a pattern of play, that would be his instructions!!!

Honestly, I'm willing to admit I've got it wrong on Maddison, it's baffling how a player of such talent did go on such a bad run (if it was injury why play him!!!). Some of the stuff he's doing now is ridiculously good. His role in the 3rd and 4th yesterday were absolutely top drawer and he's been doing this for a long time now. A total, utter travesty that he won't go to the World Cup.

No, but at least that did used to be a Cup.

Yes, I thought the Jules Rimet was a better looking trophy. Not much room for more than a few drops of champagne though. Should have made another when they gave the original to Brazil. Then stolen and no doubt melted down.

That's what I feared was the case.

If Southgate overlooks Maddison again for the World Cup, then he’s the biggest fool going.

Maddison looks absolutely supreme at the moment.
For an attacking midfielder, he has the lot at present. Skill in abundance, a good pass and goals.
I’d hate to see him leave but if was one of the big 6 clubs in England I’d snap him up

As good as Maddison is going to get, I just don’t see it happening. I think there are only 2 England games (nations league) before the Iran wc game, and Southgate was blaming the recent games on inexperienced players. I think Southgate sticks with what he knows from here on. The time to introduce Maddison was last season.

i still think Southgate is a complete plonker for not picking him, and I hope Maddison continues to prove him wrong.
