Self-interested shites tend to get quite animated when people point out how self-interested they are, even indirectly, it's true.

 

The lawn itself really doesn't even benefit much in the way of wildlife, assuming it's just bare grass, so he's not even got that excuse for the selfishness.

Yeah, my side of the street gets full sun for most of the day as we face south west (towards arizona/north mexico). The houses opposite me all have green grass (but not as green as last year). Houses on my side are more mixed green/brown. 

 

There have been some really hot days but I feel like this year we also have had some decent periods of rain which has helped. Last year my lawn was way more brown.

 

The problem too is that with not allowing all those  cancer  causing chemicals the lawns are getting harder and harder to keep crab grass and other weeds out. Ive got so much clover in my lawn then ever. Want to give up and install turf

We live on one of those awful new build developments where about 5 or 6 back gardens all overlook each others and i mean it’s as obvious as can be, I’ve got a feeling he’s absolutely oblivious to the fact or that he indeed could give a damn

We do have water meters fitted 

 

They have 4 teenage kids so I’m assuming if his usage was to be investigated he’d be quick to throw blame that way.

And of course a lot will immediately point to the pay of water company CEOs, or the amount of water lost to leaks and burst pipes as an excuse as to why they'll be selfish, but two things can be true.

 

You can be angry at the state of how water is run and managed in this country whilst also acknowledging that despite this water may well this year become ever more precious, and even more so in future years as this happens again and again.

 

We also know exactly what these people would and will be like when there are stand pipes or water rationing in the future.

Exactly so, and this matter is far from the only one where such arguments for selfishness are used, either.

Massive cracks have appeared on the wall in our porch and in the conservatory. They look horrendous. Same at my parents where two huge cracks have appeared on the wall in their lounge. Not good. Can only be down to the crazy dry weather

The East Midlands, Lincolnshire and Northamptonshire, Kent and East Sussex, and Solent and the South Downs moved into drought status on Monday, joining half of England and the whole of Wales.

The National Drought Group – made up of regulators, government officials, water companies and agricultural bodies - made the decision after a meeting on Monday.

A total of 45 million people are now living in a drought area in England, with more than 27 million facing water use restrictions.

It comes after an exceptionally hot and dry summer, with heatwave conditions set to return for many this week.

Drives me nuts when people try to describe this drought as just summer. Had a 12 minutes shower over two weeks ago and this was the only rain in two months.

My own feelings on the matter tend to veer between anger and simple determination to see accountability done.

if you have water meter does that make you exempt from a hosepipe ban as you are paying for what you use?

Talk to your insurers would be my suggestion. It's often a problem with the drains, the dry weather encourages trees to seek out the drains and they open up the joints.

Short answer: Looks like not.

 

Long answer: clearly it's a matter of conscience whether such a fundamentally critically vital and (at the moment) limited resource should be more available to those with more ability to pay anyway.

glad you mentioned that because water meters are being forced on me but I dont have the ability to pay more.

I'm presuming that's because you're in an area that is classified as frequently water stressed? Or is it another reason - new build?

For what it's worth I'm very ambivalent about the idea for broadly similar reasons to you, but additionally given the times we're already in and going towards more, there really needs to be no individual household exceptions to restrictions on resources like this; especially exceptions made by money.
