His contact runs out at the end of next season, his book value should be around £7mil in January. Hopefully there is someone who will buy for that.

5 year deal till 2027

cost 15m

so he’s at 6m next summer in the accounts with two years left

was hoping we’d turn a profit on him but seems v unlikely now

Just found something really interesting, knowing that we have no quality in midfield and our defense is pounded every game, I wondered which defender in the entire EPL has made the most clearances this season so had a look.  Of course people ignore this.  Logically if you getting battered every game, goals will be conceded.

Clearances is one stat, the area he puts them into would be more meaningful. The amount of needless set pieces and throw-ins he gives away, or possession he turns over in dangerous areas because he can't get a proper contact on the ball would be more telling.

lol Well if you want to acknowledge that, then you have to acknowledge how many massive errors he makes every game. He is utterly abject.

Stats dont lie though, from watching us this season I have felt he was our best defender, constantly getting us out of pickles, but its all ignored if something goes wrong as everyone switches on a highlights of a goal looking for the defender to blame.

The defence is getting battered nearly every game because of no midfield.  But people are not paying attention to that part of the game.

Great point and yet another example where stats can be used to support any argument.

Hes a liability.

Hopefully Ruud realises this and today was his last game for city for a while.

Straight up question, which is the better player.

Player A out of 200 attempted clearances 197 cleared, 3 errors.

Player B out of 5 attempted clearances 3 cleared, 2 errors.

Player B right because less errors?

Fair point. So maybe setting up so negatively wasn’t a bad idea then. I hope that doesn’t mean we need to re-employ Steve Cooper?

I’ve just got in from the pub. What’s your point?

Midfield is shit but our defenders are awful. Faes wasn’t good enough for this level two/three years ago, or whenever we signed him (it’s been far to long).

My point is people just concentrate on errors, and ignoring other aspects of gameplay, they see us concede a goal, look at the last player involved our side, and boom that person is a bad player.

Yeah I am not necessarily saying he is good enough, just he is our best defender.

You want us to drop our best defender?

Are you joking?

Nope. Terrible comparison as one has a tiny sample size.

And in the case of Faes (player A), it would be more like 20 errors Vs other defenders, say Okoli (Player B) with 100ish clearances and 5 errors (random guess and something that compares against your 200). In that case, player B is clearly a better defender and that's without factoring in what else that might bring to the team.

So who has made more clearances than him out of our defenders then?

Mate please just goto sleep, it's been a fecking long day....

Also curious, if I was a defender but deliberately didnt close down players approaching our goal, would I be seen as a better defender because I wasnt involved in the lead up to the goal?  Faes is probably our most aggressive defender in closing opponents down so he is involved more because of that.

Same poster was outright defending Justin earlier this season - enjoys being the contrarian

On that note that first goal between Justin and Faes feckin hell
