Gotta love an armchair manager, he would be perfect as a Youri replacement and for only £13m

And what is it with the Braybrooke and Alves love in, they are miles away from making a Premiership starting line up & neither of these will be held up by replacing Youri with another player for another 2 or 3 seasons yet.

Could you link me to the video of his long range goals that you've been watching? I can't find it on Youtube.

Absolutely, whatever he was at Ajax, he can't replicate it in the Premiership for either Manchester United or Everton, so why do some people think he'd be a rip roaring success here? As you rightly mention, if Ten Hag can't find room for him the writing's on the wall.

It's not entirely uncommon that some players from other countries leagues are just not suited to the pace and physicality of ours, it doesn't make them bad, just different skills which they have developed over the years. Think Silva and Iborra, both very good players, just not for here. He would more than likely just be another mediocre wage earner like Perez and we can't afford many more of those in our position.

Or it could be the fact he’s played for two gutless clubs that have not nurtured him properly.

Monaco fans said exactly the above about Youri, now he’s striking in 30 yarders like eating a cheese sandwich….

Point is, there is clearly a talented player there who has lost their way…. If he can be put back on track that talent will come through again.

I don't particularly like Manchester United but they're 5th in the table and 9 points above us. If they're gutless, what have we been until the last run of games? He can't get in their side under more than one manager and their current one arguably knows him better than anyone else so he clearly isn't showing up as of Premiership quality in training either. He couldn't even get in a woeful Everton side and they're has to be a valid reason for that because they must have thought they'd loaned someone special and misunderstood too.

As for Youri and Monaco, who knows what went on there but he was younger then. As for here, until recently he'd been poor for quite some time regardless of a couple of blinding goals and arguably to many, wasn't worth his place in the side. If you persist with anyone long enough, they're bound to have at least one decent game like Perez 🤣. It doesn't however wipe the other dross out unless you get given special dispensation for being a fan's favourite. VDB has flattered to deceive, whatever he did in Holland hasn't been seen here, neither is there any sign of it. We're a club with only a certain amount of financial input, he surely represents too much of a risk.

What about his form in the CL with Ajax?

We aren't in the CL.

Plus, I always take that with a pinch of salt.

Fact is, he's not up to standard in the PL and we've loaded our squad with players like that recently

But when the manager who put you on the map is there as well it's not a great indication that you're being misused or that the side is somehow the problem.

This is it, If the Manager who brought him through at Ajax can't get him firing again something is not right with him.

Best to stay clear I think.

This continued obsession with broken players needs to stop, it's almost as if he wants to get just one right so the media will continue to gush over him and forget all of those he has got wrong so far. Vestergaard, Bertrand, Under, Bennett etc. A bit like how he rejuvenated Scott Sinclair at Celtic, or Daniel Sturridge at the scousers, but completely ignoring the dozen or so he got badly wrong at both clubs.

Always fun reading this sort of ranty projection based on treating a couple of pieces from Sportwitness and The Mail as fact.

Ajax beating teams in the Champions League, that wouldn’t compete in the Premier League is a poor comparison.

I mean just look at players that have played both EPL and for Ajax, Stekelenburg, Haller, Klassen, Bergwijn, Tadic, Berghuis, Blind, Ziyech, Veltman, Riedewald, Siem de Jong. They’ve mostly not pulled up any trees.

Ajax have produced good players, however they were head and shoulders above the rest of the team. Suzarez, Zlatan, Bergkamp, Eriksen, Overmars, Der Sar, Der Vaart, Davids, Litmanen and Kanu are some time ago. The league isn’t as strong as it once was.

Every league has gems. VDB wouldn’t be a great signing for £40m to replace Youri. I’m not sure he’s an upgrade on Praet.
