It’s really interesting to see Newcastle United move away from the traditional geographical scouting responsibilities to a position specific scouting model, this is being driven by Dan Ashworth who implemented a similar model during his time at Brighton and arguably has seen great success in their player recruitment.

it begs the question as to whether we are challenging our current model and are we being innovative enough to change how we operate to achieve those marginal gains that lift a club from one of the also rans to best of the rest and challenging the big 6 or 7 for European places. It feels we have become very complacent and comfortable in how we operate and this has massively contributed to our downfall and current predicament.

I really do hope the club reevaluate how we operate and look to become innovators again across recruitment, sports science and medical departments to match the ambitions of our world class training facilities.

The trouble is, the seven richest clubs will nip in and tempt away any successful innovators at the other clubs, just as they do with their best players. Which is part of the reason us, or Brighton, or whoever, might be able to have a good season or two, breaking into the top six or seven, but it's really hard (maybe impossible) to sustain that without the amounts of cash the rich clubs have to spend.

But I completely agree that's no reason not to keep trying, and looking for new ways to succeed.

Most clubs have done this for a few years right? They use machine learning models which can you can then identify strengths and how they’ll fit into your model.

The whole issue behind the last recruitment/data person leaving was because Brendan was ignoring the model and making his own signings based on vibes.

We have used similar models to other clubs in the Premier League. For example, Bouba Soumare was wanted by Manchester United, Chelsea and Newcastle 18 months before we signed him. The summer we signed him, Arsenal were also interested.

He scored highly on all the metrics that these clubs employed, but watching him live, many saw that his metrics seemed to beat the system - I’m sure there’s a quote from an Arsenal scout that was posted on here before about it.

We took the bait and he’s not been what we hoped he would be.

Heard that it was a similar story with Daka. We were looking for a Vardy replacement and he looked ideal with his play style and goal scoring stats, but watching him live you can see they’re different players as Daka doesn’t quite have the same aggressive nature in his play.

We were under Pearson as he gave department’s responsibility and room to innovate. He embraced new ideas and technology.

The club just let slip what he installed as his teams got pulled apart by other clubs.

Then yes but not now.

I have to say I wasn't aware of this. Here's an article that explains it a bit:

Interesting approach, it allows you to focus on specific player traits and be more of an expert in recruitment for that field. You've got to say that although they've been financed, Newcastle's signings like Guimares, Botman, Isak and even Dan Burn have all been very effective. Only the Chris Wood one was a bit weird and it ended up relegating Burnley so maybe it wasn't so bad after all.

COMMUNICATION: this has been terrible this season given the club’s troubles.

Need face to face to talks and frequent check ins from board execs with reps from foxes supporters trust. This is imperitive!

fans want to know where money is. Wing invested, stadium plan progress, FFP issues, recruitment, a say in the appointment of a new manager etc etc.

execs to stop hiding in their offices and learn public speaking and engaging with fans and media.

This is the biggest offender for me, the club this season has treated the fans like an afterthought.

Regardless of how Sunday pans out, Top better have some kind of statement prepared and ready to go. The demise of this club has happened with board executives putting their fingers in their ears and pretending they can't hear anything.

Whatever happens to us this Sunday there needs to be a root & branch investigation into why so many areas of the club are failing. Then formulate a plan to fix it!

might be impossible to get all the talent that left to come back but if you don’t try you won’t know.

RECRUITMENT; proper research/data is needed after what’s happened already there is no room for failures.

SCOUTING: it’s time to start looking in other areas like Brighton has. There is so much potential in S.America and Asia.

INJURIES: wtf is happening at the new training ground? Find out if it’s the facilities, personel or methods or all 3. Or is it cursed?

Then bring the Buddhist monks back if we have to. Can’t go back to belvoir drive now.

SPONSORSHIP: can the club do more? We sure as hell need the money! Why isn’t the club attracting more interest? FIX IT!

start with that lot and we might just get back on track of being a well run club again.

This may have happened 50 years ago but tell me one club who has this close a relationship with fans?

Foxes supporters trust is outdated and has no real meaningful links with the club.

The club will argue they do keep the fans updated regarding stadium plans.

But they are simply not going yo come our on record in a meeting wirh fans and go through accounts and FFP issues and discuss recruitment with them and ask for there say on staff appointments.

It won't happen here or anywhere.

Leicester are the worst by quite some distance - treat anyone outside the club as vermin.

You didn't answer my question....

Tell me another club who's fans are involved in these discussions/decisions?

I’ve asked this before and nobody could answer.

You know this how?

I think fans of all clubs believe they’re ignored. When you have 30000 fans you have an awful lot of differing opinions, most people believe they are correct.

Must be nigh on impossible to talk to disseminate any info to fans or garner opinions without pissing numerous fans off because you failed to action their ideas.

The majority of this can be traced back to the director of football. The evidence is there for all to see now. He's got to go. Bet he somehow doesn't though.

Speak to anyone that deals with the club - the jounos get nothing from the club other than bollockings if they write something vaguely critical.

Is this any different to how other clubs operate?

Tony Bloom is pretty good at it. Regularly does interviews, Sky Sports, the club channel.
