Contributed to the issues though. Vestergaard meant to be great on the ball but today he made Okoli's usual performance on the ball look like Luka Modric. Couldn't get our foot on it at any point really when we needed to. And he was shocking defensively, just lucky it didn't lead to any big chances/goals

I had to listen to people around me say a few weeks ago 'it will be fine when Vestergaard is back.' People on here saying he was out best defender.

 

He is, and always will be,  complete gash. Paid as a senior pro in the team - has one trick which involved slowing everything down to his level. But there are always 3-4 key mistakes a game.

 

Cannot see how we get rid of him though.

Only way this happens is it he cancels his contract. Most clubs have some level of sense and noone is taking him.

I actually dont think ive seen him jump in the last 2 games. He will head the ball if its coming towards him and he can stay on the ground. But he cant jump and win a header. Boggles my mind.

One of our worst ever signings, and he'll probably still be playing for us against Bromley next season.

I’ve always thought he gets unfairly treated on here, despite being a major drop in our own standards.

Its league one on big money thanks to Enzo or Danish prem. Similar levels but he'll earn more with us

He cant be part of a proper reset,he's been a massive part of the problem.

Too slow,can't jump.physically weak for his size.slows the game down when unnecessary allowing the opposition defenders to get set..

Also has a bad attitude (?).

If anything, he gets way too much rope on here. He's been an abysmal signing when you think of the context. He was very good for 6 months under Enzo (but I probably could have done his job defensively in that team) but he was poor for the back end of that season. Yet people made out he was amazing that season but you never heard people giving great examples of his defending, they were just wooed by a guy being able to pass the football (a novelty for our team I know). The goal that Nicholas Jackson scored for Chelsea against us in the cup that season was one of the funniest/most embarrassing bits of one on one defending I've seen, and it highlighted how poor he is.

 

He needs to have his positioning absolutely perfect since he cannot move and he's also crap in the air.

 

And when he's not at it, he has such a negative effect on the team in terms of his pace of play. In a back 4, you should not be picking a centre back to be your playmaker anyway.

 

He got away with quite a few yesterday where he slipped/was out of position. Gave away stupid fouls and looked like he'd never seen a football. If that was Nelson or Okoli they'd have been absolutely crucified. I think it's ok to admit that all our defenders have been atrocious this season.

Did he? He's normally calm on the ball but he made Okoli's ball control look like Messi. And he gave away so many stupid fouls that were just cop outs.

 

I would generally agree though that I wouldn't say he doesn't at least try on the pitch. But don't forget he was also frozen out for misdemeanors off the pitch/has fallen out with more than 1 manager

He is easily beaten by attackers time and time again. It's been happening throughout his time here. He is absolutely garbage. I said years ago he can't do anything, he can't run, he has no pace, he is big but never wins a header, he isn't particularly strong.

He can stand on the ball, and he can over hit a pass into midfield. 

 

Guarantee you, he will be here first game of next season doing exactly the same and getting caught out in the same way.

Should've just stood him up rather than going to ground. Was never getting there.

 

Did make a couple of great standing tackles towards the end when it was all or nothing for him.

He spent ages on the ball, to give it to Thomas, but he should have given it to Lascelles. Idiot player, idiotic signing. Relegated three times with us?

Begovic panicked but it was Vestergaards fault. He was playing the old Maresca invite the press routine and gave a terrible pass to Thomas which invited the winger to go for him. I am certain Vestergaard is complicit in us defaulting back to a certain style.

He's 33 so unless he goes to Saudi or back to Denmark, he isn't getting another offer from a Champ club, so now we find out whether his ridiculous contract here is more important to him than knowing hes actively preventing a huge portion of money going toward saving the football club. We are likely 12 months from administration, hopefully he accepts his time here is done and agrees a deal to move on and accept a lower wage for the sake of the club. 

Is that final years pay more important than this football club to him? I could understand if he was marginally on the high end of pay, but for league 1, these players are going to be actively holding the club back from any progress.

Injury was obvs horrible, but it why its so important to have a good recruitment networks and a strategy for the types of player you need. Vestergaard is the polar opposite of Fofana - its a baffling appointment. And its one that Brendan wanted!
