Moved up to Yorkshire for Uni 15 years ago now and never left. Currently live and work in Leeds - I find Leeds fans are generally level headed about their club to be honest. You get the odd plonker in the Leeds fanbase but then, don't we all have that problem! They are just proud and can be very loud. I hate to admit it but Elland Road can create one of the best atmospheres in the country. In many ways I'm jealous, I wish our home fans were as loud!

Are we in the top 5 by any chance?!

I think we have a pretty annoying fanbase but I don't think we were succesful or perceived as "big" for long enough (if we ever were) to have the kind of fanbase I think is the MOST annoying.

The five worst that spring to mind to me, in no particular order, are Leeds, Everton, West Ham, Sunderland and Newcastle. There's a lot of them which gives them the impression they're important and creates echo chambers and they've all got this attitude that their clubs are just massive and special. Villa, on paper, should be in this category but I don't really find their lot as prolific online.

You get other fanbases that aren't as numerous but can be a bit ****ing chavy or weird like Cov but I reckon that's probably just our own confirmation bias because it's often directed at us.

The others are just straight obnoxious though. Look around r/Championship for example. It's just been invaded all season by extremely vocal, annoying, arrogant Leeds fans that dish it out to EVERYONE but can't take a single bit of stick back without having a huge strop and all piling on someone together in their collective, fragile tantrum.

Our annoying fans are mostly just pessimistic moaners with an inferiority complex crying any time the media don't say nice things about us (see Do They Mean Us thread.)

How do you find Barnsley?

I lived there for 18 months.

At the time

Barnsley fans awful

The Pigs as bad as spuds fans

The Owls a great bunch even went to some games with them.

I think it's great. Better than Huddersfield

Is it bad that the main thing I remember from living in Leeds a while ago, now, is the 'Leeds Rhino's are shit' graffiti?  Maybe reverse-psychology is what they should really be trying instead? :P

This thread reads as if a lot of us have actually accepted and expect defeat tomorrow.  I thought that we were the big dogs of this division?

My advice to those of you that work with insufferable Leeds fans is to ham it up.  Meet fire with fire.  'See'  their over confidence and raise them several levels of smugness.  We have plenty of material.  Give them both barrels and don't worry about pride coming before a fall because if we lose, you were always going to get it on Monday anyway.

Never really liked West and South Yorkshire in particular for the reasons already highlighted. As a southerner, my accent has never been that well received up there. The old East Riding is ok though and parts of N.Yorks are beautiful.

I once played a gig in Leeds at a very popular venue at the time called the Duchess of York. We actually got lost backstage - no shit, straight out of Spinal Tap. To get to the stage, you had to go down a spiral staircase, cross a flat roof (in pouring rain), through the kitchen where one of four doors lead to a narrow corridor and down another flight of stairs at the back. We ended up doing a loop and back on the roof three times. Great crowd though - couldn't fault them.

I recall a friend of mine heading up to Elland Road in the early 90s making an ill-advised journey up there to hand out anti nazi-league leaflets outside the ground during

a home game. In the face of all advice and wisdom, his conviction was too strong. He got filled in by a bunch of skinheads and ended up in intensive care.

Could be worse. You should try living in Nottingham over the past two years!

At least your name checks out - unless you’re hiding that you moved to Tamworth three years ago.

@davieG - sort out @huddersfieldfox please. At least put an ‘ex’ in there, if he isn’t going to have the good grace to be geographically accurate.

I actually type out every post with daggers. Costs me a fvcking fortune in keyboards.

It's very interesting how some fanbases are so overtly confident, almost irrespective of how their team are doing. Leeds and Forest spring to mind as 2 prime examples. By contrast, our fanbase very much reflects the city of Leicester, in that we are generally self-deprecating and humble. Personally, I would never publicly state how great are we and say how we're definitely going up, or definitely going to beat team a, b or c, for fear that I would put the mockers on everything. Plus, blowing massive leads to miss out on UCL qualification 2 years running has left me with PTSD when it comes to Leicester City!

The F*rest site is a joke - Home to Newcastle - 64% vote that they'll turn them over.

It'd take Man City at home to get a 50 / 50 split - Their board is made up of if he plays so so (never heard) we can do um.

Totally deluded tw@ts - I think they believe that F@rest are massive nonsense ........ 2nd and 3rd division for best part of 25 years ..... yes of course you are

Excellently put.

And all those totally unknown players they have 'Rodrigues Domingo de sanchez Danilo' - bought purely for exotic the exotic names - who absolutely nobody has the foggiest about.

A work colleague of mine years ago used to go on and on and on about a lad called Michael Mancienne. We'd just bought Wes offs then but it was all about Mancienne. I pointed out if this.lad was so good, we'd just buy him offa them. But it never dented his belief that Mancienne was Christ incarnate

I lived in Leeds for several years and by the time I'd moved away was quite fond of Leeds United. It's a proper one club city, like Newcastle. As a result the fans can be quite intense in their support for the club and sometimes that tips over into parochialism and defensiveness. But I find Leeds fans to be generally quite self-deprecating and as you say the atmosphere at Elland Road is generally very good.

That said I always enjoy beating them more than most. Shortly after moving to Leeds I watched the 'Steve Howard' game at the famous Brudenell Social Club. After holding it in all game I went mad when Stevie stuck that header in late on. Had to make a swift exit at the end of the game. It's a pretty friendly place but the locals weren't best pleased with some kid in skinny jeans celebrating their defeat.

Presuming by Pigs you mean Sheff Utd? I live in Sheffield and my experience is Owls fans have a very over inflated opinion of themselves albeit sound people but Blades fans are far more down to earth and self deprecating.

Never met a Barnsley fan, do they exist?

Rotherham fans you just feel sorry for!

Michael Parkinson supported Barnsley but he's brown bread.

Spent as much time in the third division as they have PL in my lifetime. Ours was a one off freak. They are down there as often as a Peterborough or Northampton

I feel your pain. Lived in Wombwell for 3 years, mix of wednesday , Barnsley and Leeds.  Most inlaws were wednesday, Barnsley.  Leeds are ****ing intolerable.  Never met such a bunch of delusional  tossers in my life. This had led me to hate Leeds as much as Forest and Coventry.  Don't care how we do it but win tomorrow

Ah, I saw quite a few bands at the Duchess back in the day. Nirvana (& Tad!), The Young Gods, Gaye Bykers, Johnny Thunders, and Colourblind James Experience. All a long time ago now!

Is it that Yorkshire arrogance thing? You know, God's own and all that. If it ain't Yorkshire, it's shite.

I don’t think it’s that, genuinely don’t see much arrogance at all.

You get the real fans who are sound. Then the divs down the pub who’ve never been to ER and talk rubbish 24/7. The ones who talk rubbish are generally losers who I wouldn’t pay much notice to on any topic.

Leeds fans on Twitter, now that’s a different kettle of fish.

Thankfully we’ve not been in their conversation for the past decade until now.
