Having said that I do think he was trying his best today and he even won the ball back a couple of times so fair one today.

Struggling to keep up with the Charlton midfield probably is his best.

If today was a decent level of performance then God help us when he has a really bad game.

He didn't make a mistake that led to a goal and, even after nearly a hundred appearances of absolute gash, there are people who are keen to see this as his arrival.

It’s like Booby and Skipp are having a bet to see who can play the worst.

First 15 it was Booby and then after that Skipp just got worse and worse while Booby stayed steady.

We need two new players in that position, can’t rely on either of them.

The second he turned up at Leicester he was watching opponents jog by without even thinking about tracking them. That's not ever changed. Stealing a living. Get rid at any price.

I really do not like Soumare in my team, but thought today he was decent. He won the ball 2-3 times in the first few minutes and I was shocked.

I about spat out my tea when I realised both him and Skipp were involved in our goal - and a fast transition at that.

Don't know what to think anymore. lol

If he somehow ends up staying, imo Marti needs to play him in the 8 role. He might keep possession well enough to play as a 6, but as we know, defensively he isn’t good enough.

Mentioned it many times before, but I’ll say it again, in that title winning season at Lille, he had Benjamin Andre alongside him, not only was Andre the midfield dictator, he was also a beast defensively.

Soumare needs that type of midfielder alongside him to potentially make things work, otherwise we might as well sell him.

Who’s going to buy him? Seriously.

I see a flaw in your plan, we don't have a defensive beast or midfield dictator in 11 players never mind one midfield player.

I don't know much about the Lille season, but from the outside it sounds like Andre gave Soumare a free ride and covered up all his defects and carried him. We don't have that luxury.

Who would have thought Soumare would play every minute so far this season, but it shows how far we've fallen.

Had a solid enough game vs Charlton but my issue is over 90 minutes he just doesn’t offer enough, he is too easy to mark and is so often caught the wrong side of his man in transitions.

Not sure he is anywhere near consistent enough to be a mainstay over a 46 game season. If he stays beyond next weeks deadline I would be tempted to slightly change the shape of the team and potentially play him as a lone 6 and ask him to sit and protect the defence, he does have the capacity to break lines with his passing and when he carries the ball if and when he can be arsed and then play 2 higher 8’s similar to Enzo’s set up.

I am not sure he has the football awareness and intelligence to play in a double pivot.

This is where hopefully a new signing would be made, we all know the midfield needs revamping, but if one of Soumare or Winks stays, they need a new midfielder partner imo.

If Soumare stays, we need to acquire a midfielder who can dictate and do work defensively.

If Winks stays, I’d rather see him back as the 6, then get an energetic box-to-box midfielder to partner him.

Hopefully we get rid of all our midfield options, but I'm not holding out much hope.

We probably have more chance of Winks going to the PL than Soumare back to France who can't afford his current wage and nobodies buying Skipp.

Is this a bad thing? IF he suddenly pulled out 8/10 performances for the rest of the season would we say no??

But I don’t think he has the concentration to play as a single pivot either !

I wonder if  he’d be better  playing as an attacking eight and asked to just carry the ball forwards and clause some chaos in the inevitable 50/50 that occurs when he eventually doesn’t see the challenge coming.

Quite. Why on Earth would anyone complain if he delivered 8/10 for the rest of the season???

People are surely not that precious?  :dunno:

He’s going to get overrun by so many bang average championship sides this year that run around a lot. He hasn’t got the quality to outclass anyone this year and doesn’t have the aggression or energy to match a poor championship midfielder that’s ‘up for it’.

Well at least we won't have to worry about that bringing his market value down!

He doubled the amount of assists he’s made for us against Charlton - going from 1 to 2 with a 0 xA pass lol

If Braybrooke, Cartwright, Page etc put in the performances he did - half of FT would say they’d never make it. There certainly wouldn’t be the same ‘wot if out of no wear he was actually gud wot then’ shouts. His PSR break even amount is c. £4m - I’m fairly sure the 2nd-7th bracket in France would bite at that.

Well yes it is - it means that the standards of the fan base have fallen through the floor.

I watched the game. He was awful. If fans want to view this as proof of ability then we're heading into accepting utter dreck as 8/10.

As I've said multiple times - those defending or otherwise supporting Soumare are on the wrong side of the argument.

He's the manifestation of all that's rotten at the club. He DOESN'T give a toss, he thought he was bigger than the club a season or two back, he hasn't had a game anywhere near good enough to be consisted impactful, and at the end of the season will walk away for free with 2 relegations and millions upon millions of pounds in his back pocket.

Playing this silly little game of hypothesis and sooth saying 'what if he scores ONE MILLION GOALS A GAME' is nothing more than a delay of admission. He's played a hundred games and he's been shit in most every one. He's lost over 50% of the games he's played in. This isn't his arrival. He isn't going to suddenly "pull out 8/10" performances.

Get your head out of the sand.

lol fancy writing all that and dodging the point entirely. apologies for being able to acknowledge that a player has been woeful for us but still hoping he plays well when he steps on the pitch for us!

Your point is "yeah but what if..." and there's no way that can be predicted other than by looking at the past.

It's clear who he is and what he's going to do this season and everyone who thinks a honking performance is his arrival is his driving down the standards we should actually have for players at the club.
