A great player who was often our nemesis.

What a leap he had. That was a time when I actually liked Man U.

Brian Murphy, starred as George Roper in 70's classics Man about the house & George & Mildred

Great actor, RIP Brian.

Loved those sit coms as a kid, so did my dear mum.  Always looked years older than he was, as a lot of people did in those days.

Unfortunately she became more renowned for the "dirty old man's fantasy" surrounding the Redlands raid concocted by the Daily Mail, (involving Jagger, the fur rug and the Mars Bar) than her talents as artist. By the early 70s, she was homeless and strung out on smack and denied an equal writing credit for 'Sister Morphine' for which Jagger/Richards took sole credit. 'Wild Horses' also off 'Sicky Fingers' is allegedly written about her. A quirky, unpredictable enigma, she certainly lead a colourful life. RIP 'Girl on a Motorcycle'.

Beautiful, flawed and exploited. And ultimately failed by those around her who should have taken better care of her but didn't because they only wanted her as a token for their own gain.

Mick Jagger, I'm looking at you among others.

Brian Murphy was so versatile.

From playing the brow-beaten husband George Roper in Man About the House to the groundbreaking role of brow-beaten husband George Roper in George & Mildred, he proved he could turn his hand to anything.

Many do not know he also played the role of DCI George Roper in Z Cars, agent George (the knife) Roper in The Avengers, and who can ever forget the elderly George Roper he played in Last of the Summer Wine? Ultimately though, he will be remembered for his portrayal of the kindly George Roper in This Is Your Life.

I see you're a fan of his work.

I think she went out of her way throughout her life to say that her problems were a result of her own decisions and she wasn't led astray by others. There are quite a few interviews where she stressed that she wasn't a powerless victim and had control over her destiny. Perhaps she was kidding herself, but personally I found it very refreshing that she took responsibility for her actions when it would have been very easy to point fingers.

And she was seriously underrated. The original 'Sister Morphine' is great, but stuff like 'Why do you do it' / 'Lucy Jordan' / 'Strange Weather' and then latter day cuts like 'Vagabond Ways', 'Incarceration', 'City of Quartz', 'Last Song' and the Nick Cave collaborations are all brilliant.

Well, "Why Do You Do It" was a revelation. lol I've not heard it before.

"The Ballad Of Lucy Jordan" seems almost autobiographical. And so sad.

"Vagabond Ways" moves me as it is so close to my daughter's experience. Along with "Hurt" by Nine Inch Nails/Johnny Cash.

I've listened to the ones you've mentioned

All those songs are so dark and emotionally raw.  And quite difficult to listen to.

They give me a mental image of someone in the depths of drugs, alcohol, mental illness and loneliness.

Which was her life, I guess.

I prefer her song about succulent rashers of bacon chopped into cubes, The Ballad of Juicy Lardon.

Gutted.

I always hoped there’d be a reunion gig at some point, however remote.

RIP Rick Buckler 😟
