Jon the Hat Posted 29 September 2024 Posted 29 September 2024 JSO can’t be arsed to actually do the hard work of lobbying power and convincing the public, so instead they are doing stupid stunts which have the opposite effect. ****wits. 2 1 1

She calls for a complete overhaul of the system to ensure every public servant makes it a priority - not just the Home Office - and does not rule out leaving the European Convention on Human Rights.” This whipping of immigration as being the cause of all societies problems and trying to make it front and centre as a scapegoat for every single part of how society is run as if it’s the final boss of modern 21st century society is so depressing. 6

Quite. What makes it most depressing for me is the attitude of national insularity/superiority it infers - as if the idea of nationalism itself is going to solve all or even merely survive the problems we face as a species ahead.
Dunge Posted 29 September 2024 Posted 29 September 2024 Whenever I hear anything from the Conservative leadership campaign, it feels like the question they’re asking is less “How do we get back into power?” and more “How do we continue to exist as a party?”.

And for Tory supporters to try and hammer Keir for taking gifts, and actually nothing against the law they seem to forget all the $$$$ they lied and cheated out of us. Still, some simpletons have an agenda to try and justify!

Either way, it's a judgement that two people like those two have been granted the power to affect government decision-making in any capacity (which they clearly have; I'm pretty sure Netanyahu has acquiesced to their position more than once to prevent the collapse of his government and losing power himself). Edit: Additionally, people of the same mindset as those two are on record as saying that they would, without hesitation, target Middle Eastern and European cities with nuclear weapons should it look like Israel will be overcome and no help is forthcoming. News new member of the coalition cabinet brings with him 4 votes and and dilutes Ben gvir and smotrich’s influence in govt. they no longer have an effective veto on domestic policy and BN will be emboldened in acceding to some details in possible Gaza ceasefire negs. You’d also assume that the current situation with Hezbollah may give BN a bit of leverage with sinwar (if he can be contacted) (also makes an election ahead of the 2026 timescale less likely without enquiry influence as discussed yesterday) Edited 29 September 2024 by st albans fox

As a Labour supporter the problem for me is on the one hand Starmer and Reeves telling us how hard the near future is but at same time taking freebies all over the shop. Makes them look out of touch and even if not against the law will obviously mean questions asked. 1

I know people will have roses stapled to their eyeballs but there a lots of people unhappy about this, from a moral standpoint. Starmer has received more donations than every single Labour leader since 1997 combined by the way. The £20,000 GCSE excuse when the period in question didn’t even cover the majority of the GCSE period. Was he also breaking Covid rules by staying there? That will be revealed this week. Post election for any government should be the honeymoon period, this has been anything but. People will peddle how bad it was under the tories - and yes it was, terrible - especially with Boris and Truss. Why would anyone use that as a yardstick for what the future should look like? We used to be in league one so we should be grateful we’re playing so badly in the premier league? Same principle. Toad in the hole almost ready, couldn’t resist a trip to the butchers this week. 2

What is your sausage of choice? Personally, "bonfire" sausages from The Malt Kilns, Stretton Under Fosse. For anyone in the Hinckley/Lutterworth catchment, well worth a visit. https://g.co/kgs/HrKTqdN

The last 4 years she's spent attacking LGBT people at every turn, to the point that two lesbian staffers in her office at the time resigned citing a hostile workplace. She's been indistinguishable with the likes of Badenoch on the "culture war" topics. 1
