Add that to the 100+ game streak of an academy graduate starting for us coming to an end the other week.

Way to go Steve Cooper. To think hes got a reputation of bringing youth through haha.

The one thing I initially thought he would be good for is utilising our youth and he has been total shite

Did he actually have a history of playing youth players at forest or Swansea? Or was it just England where he had no choice but to play them

he had some of his england youth team players when at Swansea but honestly that feels tenuous as a claim to bringing through youth, would he have played them if he didn't have history with them?

I think he thinks picking the younger Ayew brother is utilising youth

I'm always a bit cautious with stats like this as you can literally find any stat to find your narrative.

Having said that  -  it's a feeling, and if I was to try and put it into words it's not just his inability to see the attacking creative youth we have.

I really do think he's putting 99% of everything into his reputation and not what's right for the club.

This makes me think are the people above him doing the same?

Seems to me he's been hired as a 'buffer' yes man.

Win games and we're all as stupid as anything and will be lauding him. Until that point I'll be asking many questions.

Gut instinct tells me he has to go quickly and the club is rotten to the core.

Of the fit and available academy products who would or could have been included in the squad today and improved it?

Thomas ahead of Ricardo? Alves ahead of El Khannous? McAteer ahead of Fatawu?

Maybe McAteer ahead of BDR? But I think BDR is a decent shout on the bench for his versatility.

I love seeing young players come through, and hopefully one of the loanees will come back and be ready to join the first team, right now we don’t have a youth product that improves the match day squad in my opinion.

It’s disappointing but not solely down to Cooper which is where a couple of points of balance come in.

PSR forcing clubs like us to sell out academic products. There were strong rumours that neither Barnes nor KDH were particularly wanting a move. This stat from 2018 must pretty much take into account the two of them plus Chilwell so we have done well to have 3 such players come through.

Also, we have had a successful loan window. Obviously Nelson is the only academy one in the Championship but we have a couple each in L1 and L2 all doing well. The Braybrooke loan looks a bit odd and I fear it will not help him kick on as much as we hoped.

That said, we are only talking about the squad here. Not too long ago, there were only 5 substitutes allowed to be named and plenty of people on here will no doubt remember far further back than I can to days when it was just one. So with 9 available, I do feel like for any team, they should be a space or two on the bench for young prospects, whether they get on or not. That is the bit on Cooper.

I thought this at the time, but when it went up to 9 named and up to 5 used, I feel it should have come with the rule that the extra two named were academy and say, 1 of the 5 you can use should be. To encourage giving youth the opportunity.

Interesting stat. But does show teams behind him aren't getting the best out the youth players? Is the quality as good as it once was? Alves, yes he's a talent, but I'd be wary throwing him in now with a team struggling for form and an unsettled one. It's a shame he was injured last season, that would have been perfect for him.

But I do wonder if some of this is the drop off in talent as well and not all on Cooper? Saying that, I'd have McAteer on the bench

Alves instead of Soumare.
