What we'd give for just half of the characters in that squad now, probably 7 or 8 leaders amongst them, now we have 0.

Forgot how much I loved Nige for a bit, probably blurred by all our success after his tenure but watching the last 3 years really prove how good he was for us and left us in a position so much better than where he found us, which can't be said for many managers who leave football clubs. Can see how much every single player respects him, and that's mutual which is why he could galvanise on paper a team of misfits into what he did.

Have to say West Brom away during the great escape season was probably my favourite ever away day, atmosphere was electric all day and to win it late was just special.

Glad to hear that he is on the mend, and as many have echoed would snap his hand off if he offered his services in any capacity next season, he managed to see off all of Svens overpaid wasters, so if he could do that with this mob then would undoubtedly go down as the GOAT. If he walked into any pub in Leicestershire can't imagine he would have to buy a pint.

Was a class away

My favourite vardy goal too. It’s the definition of what Vardy was/is.

Just watched it back

Sir Nige went with Vardy, Ulloa and Nugent in the starting line up

I wish it could have been Nigel in charge when we won the league. He built it, facilitated it, fostered it. Him and his team, just winners. Shakespeare, Walsh, Rennie, Balsom - legends.

Without Pearson and co we would have never have won the league.

Probably an unpopular opinion that but I agree. He built it that's for sure.

Leicester Manager Claudio Ranieri Speaks After Club Backing - Pre Leicester v Derby Press Conference

I’ve mentioned it on here before but I just don’t feel the same adulation for Claudio. It was all so fleeting and then he unpicked some of the good work that stood before him.

I didn't go to many games during Pearson's time. O'Neill will always be the guy for me as Pearson is obviously for a lot of people on this thread. But I loved a lot of Pearson's reign because the football was fantastic and also because it coincided with a fantastic period of my life.

Ranieri represents a lot of things I love beyond Leicester City.

That's the great thing about football, it creates an emotional connection that goes beyond win columns or numbers of trophies, and is different for everyone.

Same. Have no lasting feeling towards Ranieri at all. No love or care about his career since and wouldn't put him in the top 3 of favourite managers since I started going.

Nige on the other hand...

Another one for Nige here. The ending to the 14/15 season showed the togetherness, the bond and everything that Pearson built up.

Claudio had everything in his favour, plus some money to build on what was already achieved.

i really don’t think Pearson got the full credit he deserved and I’d love to see him back in some capacity as he was an absolutely huge part of our success.

He even got us out of league one remember

It wouldn’t have been the same with Nigel.

I loved Nigel, did so much for the club.

But claudio in that season was brilliant, the way he handled the press, the little tweak to the side after the arsenal defeat at home.

Not sure we still win it with Nigel, we’ll never know.

Plus the day with bocelli singing at the KP wouldn’t have happened

What was the post Arsenal tweak?

Especially with Ranieri saying he'd trade the win with us for a Serie A with Roma.

Except he didn't.

Three of the first-choice players (Fuchs, Kanté, and Okasaki) in the title side never played for him, while three others (Simpson, Drinkwater and Albrighton) were only fringe players.

In addition, Mahrez, Vardy and Morgan all improved massively under Ranieri, plus Schmeichel was a Sven-Goran Eriksson signing.

Even Pearson's own coaches admitted the great escape was largely down to Esteban Cambiasso's leadership on the field rather than the manager's off it.

Well yeah, but other than that?….

Fuchs Kante and Okazaki were very much Pearson/Walsh signings. We went for Okazaki the Jan before. Fuchs was signed while Nige was still here and Kante was very much on the list.

Albrighton had finally got into the side at the end and Drinkwater had a difficult first season in the PL but was a Pearson regular before that.

Mahrez, Morgan Vardy did improve in the title winning season and I would argue continued to do so after it - all (and I include Morgan in this) became top 6 players. Their trajectory was unforeseen id argue but improvement was very much a Nige/Shakey trademark.

I don’t know if we would’ve won the league with Nige. But I think the fair position is both Ranieri and Pearson played significant parts and taking credit from either is unfair in my opinion.

I think one thing you can absolutely give credit to Nige for is the structure and mentality of the squad. Mentality monsters is you can use the term. What a number of them went through previously (the championship collapse and the Watford game) I think played huge roles in the success the club had post Nige leaving.

Personally, I will always hold Nige in high regard, he is one of the best. Above Little for me and down to the trophies, behind O’Neil. However, him and his team rebuilt this club twice. We were desperate for a management team like them and they did wonders.

Great post.

I'd be more disappointed if he wouldn't, considering the love Roma fans have for their team. Totti said something similar iirc about staying at Roma instead of going to e.g. Juve to win more trophies.

We have this debate every couple of months. I think whether you prefer Nige or Claudio maybe comes down to personality. Pearson had that kind of no nonsense Yorkshireman type of persona which I don't really like, but every time I've seen him since he left he has come across as an intelligent and generous guy and for sure he's one of the most important managers in our history without whom the recent good times wouldn't have happened.

Feel like there's a crossover here between the real ale heads and Pearsonites. Ranieri will always be king for us M&S sandwich, continental-lager happy clapper types.
