He was, but since then he was sold arguably against his preference, and we got promoted to the EPL, and even if he came back, what does he have left to prove here? He is more likely to go a mid table team.

But if he does come back and help us survive, after leaving against his will to help his boyhood club financially, he needs to be mentioned in the same breath as our biggest icons/best servants. As that would be several selfless acts to help his club. 1

Popular Post Itsthejoeker Posted 24 December 2024 Popular Post Posted 24 December 2024 I like KDH, he did a lot for us last year. But if you if he hadn't played for us no one would be excited about picking up a decent Championship midfielder that's been warming Chelsea's bench since the summer 5

Last season, Ndidi and KDH were the "top" of the box and if you're going to have the same again then in order to complete the bottom of it you need to have a defender step forward, as Ricky was doing. This hasn't historically been Ruud's preference and I personally doubt he changes. The other way to play the three together is Ndidi doing the Ricardo part alongside Winks as the holding sixes and the rest is what @moore_94 was suggesting with KDH, playing as ultimately one of our current 10s which squeezes one of BEK or FB out. Just doesn't really work. This forum is absolutely full of people continuously suggesting different tactics, formations and systems. Every pre match thread is "what if we tried this..." it makes me chuckle. Good managers these days aren't just chopping and changing shapes, Enzo barely shifted from one set up all year and I think RVN is largely going to be the same. The defensive shape might sometimes change but in possession it's likely always going to be 3-box-3 and suggesting any tactic otherwise is a bit of a waste of time outside fantasy. Money. Money is everything. Winning is money, so the most reliable and efficient way to win is the most reliable and efficient way to money. The money you lose from next winning is massive, look at our current troubles. The whole sport has largely become more structured and tactical because it's a team game and building it towards structure is the best way to ensure a win. I definitely think young players largely get "flair" coached out of them these days, yes. Look at Rodgers, hates a player going on a dribble, one or two touches that's it, pass it on. There's a lot of that in the sport. I'm not here to tell you it's better these days. It's just this is the reality we have now whether we like it or not. Pep and Mourinho almost ushered in an industrial revolution in football in the 00s. Everything became "better" and in doing some probably became worse. Thanks for your reply. Always good to hear differing perspectives. I understand the top of the box. Personally, I don’t think we have the players to leave 3 at the back with a FB making up the bottom of the box. This system works when have the best players. When we don’t I would lean towards a structured back 4. i just think play a normal back 4, winks Ndidi and KDH Would be a decent midfield for us. However Bilal has been a good signing and FB has been great. Really surprised at his lack of game time in recent matches. Could be recalled by Brighton in January at a guess. Could FB play RW and Bilal LW. Or play Winks, KDH and Bilal. We have a huge transfer window now which will shape the next couple of seasons for the club. Get the window right and have a chance to stay premier league. If we stay with the squad we have really looks like championship again, which will be harder to get promoted this time round. i am not saying I am right. Always nice to hear an opinion. I fully agree with your answer on Money, team shape and structure as the cause for the modern game. It is a huge shame as flair and creativity are coached out of them. Zidane, Ronaldinho, Ronaldo (R+) phenomenal players and we are losing quality as a result. Every side in the 90s and early 2000s had real quality players. just as an example, There is a huge decline in the quality of strikers in the modern game. As you correctly said everything became better and as a result probably has become worse. I really don’t understand the modern coach either. Why they can’t change system or set up. And really only believe in one way at playing. Russell Martin for example. Everyone could see conceding goals playing out from the back. But he did it every game. To me this is not good coaching / managing. Good quality coaching staff set teams with the best chance to get a positive result. When I was growing up, teams would play when they could and Defend when needed too. Managers had to change tactics during the game. Now they seem to just settle for what is happening. Ange at Spurs. Only plays one way, Guardiola as well, I am really interested to see how he changes this huge decline in performance since Rodri’s injury. He is arguably one of the best managers in recent history. But he has spent fortunes everywhere he has been. He has not had any answers in the last 12 games even with the players he has. Played same style all the time. Coaches do not seem to change any more and only believe in one type of Philosophy. Baffles me as a fan but maybe that is why I am a supporter rather than professional manager.

I’d wager that most would be quite happy with that business.

We haven't really played with 8s this season, but a winger is needed.

The OP was saying we wouldn’t be interested in a star performer from the championship who wasn’t getting time at his new club. it’s nothing to do with the fact it’s our old player, it’s more because it’s a player who’s recently performed very well and hasn’t been given a proper chance yet. The situation on both are pretty identical. Signed for areas that the clubs didn’t have any intention of making them first team

We made him leave for PSR reasons, and now we consider negotiating a loan? Both he and Chelsea would likely tell us where to go.
JimJams Posted 27 December 2024 Posted 27 December 2024 I can see him going to Spurs or a club of that ilk. They're pretty short in that area. I reckon he might fancy his chances when the players fighting for places there are Bentancur, Bissouma and Sarr. Decent, but not £100millers which is what he's up against now. Dunno what they see Grays future as but he's only been used in defence this season.

The Quick Brown Fox Posted 27 December 2024 Posted 27 December 2024 If he comes back, he would be widely welcomed by fans and players alike. He would also have a point to prove and that can only be a good thing for us.

Richmondfox Posted 27 December 2024 Posted 27 December 2024 I hope he comes back. We need someone like him with energy, looking to press, tackle and get the ball up the pitch. Mavadidi is too scared to take anyone on or won’t pass to VK, Ayew falls over or passes backwards and Soumare won’t track, press or attempt to tackle.
