Exclusive: Leicester City plot sensational Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall return

 

Leicester City could make a sensational move to re-sign Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall on loan from Chelsea in January, sources have told Football Insider.

 

The midfielder joined the Blues from Leicester in July, but they have been alerted to his availability and are expected to explore the potential of a return.

 

Football Insider revealed on 7 December that Chelsea have made the 26-year-old available for transfer in January, just months after his arrival from the King Power.

 

However, they are set to demand at least the £30million fee they paid to sign him to let him leave on a permanent deal, forcing the Foxes to explore a potential loan.

Dewsbury-Hall was a crucial part of the side which saw Leicester promoted from the Championship at the first time of asking last season.

 

His performances in the Championship earned him a big-money move to Stamford Bridge, but he has since failed to make an impact.

 

As a result, the Foxes are interested in providing a potential lifeline for the midfielder to establish himself as a regular Premier League player in the remainder of the season.

 

Since his move to Chelsea, Dewsbury-Hall has played just 13 times across all competitions and was an unused substitute once again for the 4-3 win over Tottenham on Sunday.

 

He has averaged just 52 minutes per game, with all seven of his starts having come in domestic and European cup competitions rather than the Premier League.

 

The midfielder was among a number of players all-but excluded from Enzo Maresca’s plans, despite his success in his Leicester side, and is now keen to move on.

A chance to play more regular first-team football is thought to be an appealing prospect for him, and he will assess his options in the transfer window.

 

Leicester, meanwhile, struggled to find a suitable replacement for their star man after his departure and could now bring him back to fill the void he left.

 

Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider in November that Premier League clubs are lining up to sign Dewsbury-Hall in January.

 

Aston Villa are though to be among the interested clubs and are keeping a close eye on his situation, and will provide competition to Leicester’s effort.

Can’t see this happening.

 

Whilst it would be nice to welcome one of our own back, I can’t see him fitting in to our system.

 

The only position he could fit into is as a number 10 which would impact the roles of Bilal and Buenanotte. Would rather sign an out and out winger

As much as I’d love to see him back, I just don’t think he’s actually worth that much money. 
 

Any loan deal would come with a big fee and with Bouba seemingly reformed I just don’t think it’s needed. 

If we’re going after ex players then it’s Barnes please.

priorities should be defence and an attacking winger.

Absolutely nobody is going to pay them £30mill for KDH.  I wonder if he'll spend his entire Chelsea career being loaned out.

 

We have more pressing areas of concern now though and we've already got a packed midfield.  He's on about 80kpw now too apparently.

Totally agree. Almost appears to be an agreement they came to as part of the Enzo compensation fee to find crafty way to assist with FFP on both sides with homegrown players providing "pure profit" etc.

 

Reminds me of when we made an unrealistic move for Nzonzi from Stoke all those years ago in 2015 who was on the way to Sevilla. It was probably a gentleman's agreement made as part of the Huth transfer for us to bid for Nzonzi to increase his value as Sevilla then raised their bid to match our higher bid.

buy him back within six months and spread that over five years 

 

they wouldn’t allow it.  Well they couldn’t stop it but we’d be charged and sanctioned unless we agreed to take the income off 23/24 psr

Chelsea are a top 4 team on paper, KDH is good enough to play for a top 8 team the likes of Brighton / Newcastle if they were interested would be a good fit.

I think as many others have said - Playing for a top 4 club is probably a bit beyond him, but he's good enough to have a really good premier league career IMO.

 

Hope he doesn't waste too much time at Chelsea.

To be fair to him, he clearly didn't want to leave, but it was the best for the club.
