It's not a 'nice practice' LOL. Your employer might have fed you that line but the reality is staff are off over the period and with the bank holidays systems will also be down and it's not worth the risk to stick to the usual pay day. So get them paid early and go away.

Also, people organise themselves around the dates they are paid. Some of my bills, investments, savings, card payments are all set to the day after pay day so I don't have to keep any money in my current account. I know countless others who do the same. To be told with 20 hours that will change causes unnecessary work and stress if you can't the payment date.

Why would people adjust their payments based on a payroll date that hasn’t been communicated to them and is different to their normal pay date?

People are massively missing the point. In the same way people miss the point with these Macquarie loans to the tune £10m

If money was not an issue and it was purely down to wanting to align with the rest of KP pay days, then why not just do it at the end of January? That would be 5 weeks notice rather than 20 hours notice and nobody would have batted an eyelid

Yeah this whole thing absolutely stinks and is symptomatic of the owner not giving a flying ****.

My company, and I am pretty sure every company in the world ever, will have their pay dates listed and communicated. It's literally the only reason you come to work, to get paid. People kinda wanna know when they get paid

Yeh and it’s end of the month? That’s their contract.

They’ve never been told they’re getting paid early this month?

I am not sure why people would start changing direct debits etc… for one month based on an assumption they would get paid early for this month only.

I dont like this, but for transparency this once happened to me in a job many years back, where the payment came through post christmas.

Most employment contracts state payment date is 'on or around' a date towards the end of the month, and ive never had one that specifically states that December pay will come pre christmas.

I work at a University our pay dates for December are always pre Christmas, I guess it depends on the place but just to give one day notice is poor form.

For all months of the year?

Yes? It’s being treated as a normal month. They’ve not been told they’re getting paid early this month.

In which case why the need to communicate then with one day notice? that's poor form you either tell your employees in advance not with one day notice!

Companies don’t actually do it as a nice gesture. It’s so payroll, admin and HR staff can have Xmas off.

Probably because word had spread people were assuming they were getting paid early based off last year?

This isn't true. There was communication they would be paid on 19th December, just like in previous years.image.thumb.jpeg.3996b1da970d440b88c3801ccd493ff2.jpeg

The "club can do no wrong" brigade are really having to work hard on this one aren't they? lol

Yes, but i was replying to your point about breach of contract. There is a difference between it being a poor way to treat people and breach of contract.

There is no excuses to sue for breach of employment law.

If they were emailed that pay date in advance would be on the 19th December and then subsequently with one day notice change that to 31st December is that not a breach of contract?

This changes everything then and I take back what I said.

If it’s been communicated then absolutely agree it’s a bad move.

The next Sheffield Wednesday under these clowns. We're in trouble when the parachute money runs out (if out the top flight).

I doubt it. You could probably go for poor conduct but i doubt you would get anywhere. The later email redacts the first one, and the first one wasn't a contractual obligation.

If these emails are real, then its pi55 poor conduct and i would be unhappy with my employer.

So the club has told people they would be paid on 19th, and then also told people they have decided the align with KP payments. Is my understanding correct?
