Premier League history-maker amongst Sheffield United transfer targets as key window creaks open

Sheffield United have placed Hamza Choudhury’s name on their list of transfer targets this January, The Star can reveal, after the Leicester City man made history by changing his international allegiance to represent Bangladesh. Choudhury will become the first Premier Leagueplayer to represent the country when he makes his international debut.

And he may do so as a United player, with Chris Wilder eyeing a move for the midfielder as he looks to bolster his squad for the second part of the season. United are light in midfield after the season-ending injury suffered by Oliver Arblaster while Vini Souza’s recent absence with a hamstring issue left Tom Davies and Sydie Peck as the only two central midfielders at Wilder’s disposal.

The 27-year-old helped Leicester win the Championship title last season, but has made only four appearances in the Premier League this time around, the latest a 20=minute cameo off the bench in defeat to Manchester City at the weekend. Wilder worked with Choudhury, a former England U21 international, during their time at Watford, who host United this weekend, and was linked with the midfielder during his time in charge at Middlesbrough.

The Blades chief is seeking some more experience in the centre of United’s midfield, with Choudhury’s previous experience of a Championship promotion push also playing in his advantage. Much may depend on Leicester’s own transfer business in the January market, with new boss Ruud van Nistelrooy looking to put his stamp on the squad he inherited from Steve Cooper, but United are keen to hit the ground running after being taken over recently by American group COH Sports.

“It’s something that’s been in the works for a couple of years,” Choudhury told The Athletic of his international switch. “I represented England in the youth team, but as my career progressed, it came to fruition that is not an option for me.

“It’s something I’ve definitely always had in the back of my mind, that I’d like to represent Bangladesh — and the people of Bangladesh more importantly. I’ve got a really good connection with the fans in Bangladesh. I get messages every day letting me know that they want me to come and play.”

He's a bad apple.

Should have been gone years ago. Pretty sure he's only remained at the club because of sentimental reasons and because he's a Leicester lad. Needs to be sold for the benefit of his own career. He needs us more than we need him and that's not a good position for a player to be in.

Good riddance for whenever he goes and the sooner that is the better.

Seems a little harsh. Might I enquire why he’s a bad apple?

The driving while drunk incidents.

And a couple of other things I've heard about him on the grapevine, also while he's been inebriated one way or the other...

I like Hamza, I know he's had issue off the pitch but he's always put a shift in when called upon, even if he's not the most gifted player.

That all said, get rid just so I don't have to see a fuching Bangladeshi flag in the comments of a Leicester City YouTube video ever again.

If we had, we may well still be a championship club this season.

The West Brom  game was a huge sliding doors moment for our club and was well worth whatever we’ve paid him (plus he’s not even lost any value)

If I remember rightly most of his heroics were after he lost the ball and put us in that position in the first place.

But I loved his performance on the line that day, not gonna lie.

We've given this lad about 50-60k a week for years and he's barely done anything for us. He's probably cost us 10m+ in wages. Sell him for 5-7m and pocket his wages IMO.

5 million would be nice, pure profit.

Would also cover enough amortisation in this season amount to spend 25m on a player on  a 5 year contract.

Obviously you would have to find the money for the other 4 years!

We should be sale him and Thomas for anything we can get.

I’m not saying we shouldn’t sell him now. but he’s added value to us since that contract renewal imo. And at we would have been letting him go for free without it.

Theres worse business been done by the club than keeping a handy squad player around a little longer and probably recuperating more money in the process when he eventually leaves

Is this a "Thanks for Souttar, sorry we broke him, do you want us to take any shit of your hands by way off an apology?"...
