Could also sum it up as.... They went to Ukraine and brought back a wonderkid... we went to Ukraine and brought back a competition winner pretending he was brazilian....

Wages wages wages.

We created an unsustainable wage structure unless you reached Europe each season and sold a player for mega bucks. One slip and you’re in a huge deficit.

managing the straight profit or loss on transfer fees is easy. It’s the agent fees and wages that weigh everything down.

At this moment in time, our wage bill is supposedly back in line but all the issues that we are currently dealing with are from the previous campaigns and the fact the championship revenue  figures are now being included

Our Average wage in 2022 was £85k pw that’s outrageous. might sound outlandish but you have vardy; madison, youri, Evan’s, wilf, Barnes and others well north of 100k.  And the people you expect on low wages like Thomas and hamza on at least 60k

Bournemouths was 50k (they had only just been promoted)

Ours is currently 2024 £64k pw, Bournemouth’s is £55k pw

obviously these numbers can only be taken with a pinch of salt but they paint a picture, we’ve got some very large contracts and vastly over pay fringe players and youth players.

Sold Solanke for £60m and all the players they've brought in have been below or slightly over that level? Think it's a fairly easy one to explain?

Low overheads... tiny stadium, but still bringing in good sponsorship deals due to stability in the Prem.

They're going to sell Kirkez for north of 50m either this window or in the summer.

Oh and they're signing young talent who they can give big contracts to and spread costs out.

Not sure they will get north of £50m this window they putting him around the 40m mark & then hoped a bidding war. Liverpool, Chelsea & Man U originally showing an interest but Man U dont have the funds for big business so now looking at Dorgu for the WB position. Then are Chelsea really interested in him or is that agents lumping them in, their priority is a CB so leaves Liverpool to offer what they want probably somewhere between 30-40m if B'mouth dig in for the 40.

With regards to how do they do it not sure it is easy to explain, Their wages are not a million miles from ours, just £4m less per season @£65m pa,  their stadium is only 11,330 capacity so no real income there, they are not a world renowed club so little if any commercial income to speak of there, their sponsorships streams are not in the 10s of millions at best 10-20m pa & that is only propped up by the dodgy deal they did with shady betting company bj88 who paid 187% over market price for a front of shirt deal.

Lets see how they do in the transfer window for a new striker as both of their's are now out for the majority or all of the 2nd part of the season with injury.

Let's be honest here...other than Ipswich filling a loan spot what other business has happened yet or is even close to happening for any club? None that's what...contract extensions, recalling loan players is about as far as it's gone so far. We are no less active than any other club

And whilst that may be true, we are definitely in the most need of reinforcements to stay in the division. Southampton are down so you look to the team not cut adrift yet but in a bad way...and you find US.

So in short I couldn't care less what other team's are doing/not doing. Irrelevant to our plight.

So why have this thread?

Ok I'll rephrase - "it's irrelevant to us how busy other teams are". If another team isn't busy, it has no bearing on whether we can or can't be.

Bournemouth have now confirmed the signing of Soler.... going to have some serious resale value in that back 4. Kerkez off to United for £50m plus. Huijsen will go for north of maguire money. Zabarnyi could be similar.

£6.9m on Soler as well - one of the few available Argentine U20 players not at one of the big Argentine clubs. Excellent deal.

Think it's pretty symptomatic of the January transfer window though. Yes we look at our particular situation but just as easily Everton, Wolves, Palace fans are in need of new players and it's just as important to fans fighting near the higher echelons of the league to reinforce (United, Arsenal, Spurs) but find the January window almost impossible to work in

I lump United and Spurs into higher echelon clubs but they are underachieving even more than we are

A club thats forward thinking and preparing for Kerkez's departure early. This is how you avoid a last minute scramble for someone like Faes!

Re this threads relevance, in part it can answer some of our questions about our club regarding whether there have been players in the market worth signing. Of course the list of players who have been available isn't exclusive to those who have joined new clubs as some may just stay with their existing club but as each transfer comes up you can ask "Should we have been in for him?" It's pretty rare that one comes up and you think, yes that would have been a great fit for us, a position we need, affordable, we're the right sized club for them etc. Some you won't know for a few months if they're a speculative signing, a bit of an unknown but generally you can have an opinion over most  by looking at what we already have and the factors around how realistic it would be.

The other angle is an indication of activity by those around us in particular, if we are in a battle with Southampton, Ipswich, Wolves and Everton (or other) for survival then knowing one of them has improved significantly would be a gauge to compare our own activity with (So far Doris the Tea Lady has taken on a part time assistant...). The first point also answers those counter arguments "Well there's no-one out there", "There's no value in the January Window", "It's alright saying sign a right back but who's available" etc. It's an understanding of the current market as opposed to tunnel vision although I accept the argument that you can make things happen yourself by being pro-active, asking questions, putting in bids, it's not just an agent led cattle market with a fixed number of players available. For our club it is about what we do to improve ourselves that will have the impact and rightly the focus but a rivals  bigger improvement can ultimately affect our season too.

Yeah, this is crackers.

I can't believe they've managed to get him. He looked so promising at Lorient and someone I thought we should have been all over in terms of signing for the future.

Not sure if it's been lack of opportunity at Roma or if something's going on behind the scenes but they could have an absolute player on their hands for 6 months here.

When you consider we got relegated, sold a load of players on big wages, lost a load on free transfers that were on big wages and our wage bill is still higher theirs. It's crazy.

Someone will need to explain to me how clubs like Bournemouth can successfully manage FFP, or at least it seems that way. Sold Solanke but can't think any other big sales. They don't have trouble convincing players to join them.

And their ground is tiny for PL so revenue would be low too. Maybe they're well run?

This is the worst I've felt for a while!

The only thing I holding onto, is we usually do our business without any leaks and our transfers happen out of the blue🤞🤞🤞

The media need to be all over this at the press conference tomorrow.
