Poor £50k a week to train and not play.

Don't know why anyone has any sympathy for this stuff, he wasn't forced to come here, he signed a very good contract for himself with a PL club.

I think people forget that there are still human and how much you earn doesn’t always mean you are happy.

same with the stick ward was given.

Totally agree. Only poor people have the right to be unhappy/unsettled or missing home!

I agree with the sentiment but...

Ward has sat on his arse collecting a nice fat wage for years.  If he was that unhappy I have no doubt he could have taken a wage cut, still made plenty of money, and moved on.

I have a lot more sympathy with a young player moving to a new country and league than I do for Ward.

If he's on 50k a week I imagine we will be stuck with him. That must of at least doubled his previous wage. More top work.

Mind boggling that he’s not in the squad, end of story. Insanity is doing the same thing again and again hoping for a different result and Ruud by using the three stooges Coady Vestergaard and Faes while we are paying Okoli and he’s registered to play for us is off his head.

Trippier won with Atletico as well.

I really wish I’d never written that post @shen 😂

I don't see Coadys ball playing being much better at all, and the stats don't back that up either.  It's marginal.  It's not marginal defensively though, he's much better in that aspect than the ancient scouser.

Plays on the other side to Coady tho eh? Vestergaard and Faes are the two more trusted to play on the left ahead of him and both are better with the ball (same with regards to Faes over Coady on the right.) Okoli’s one true advantage over Vesty is obviously pace, neither are as good in the air as they should be. Clearly at the moment, RVN values the ball playing over defensive pace. They are all flawed players at this level tbh hence our position in the league. Maybe it is time to deploy a 3-5-2 to acknowledge this weakness. I guess Okoli’s non selection might suggest he’s a January transfer out option as suggested, it’ll be interesting to see if he’s back in the squad today :dunno:

No?

He's played the right of the CB's as Coady does in all but the game vs Chelsea and the back 3 vs Brentford.

Here we go, someone threw in the figure of £50k to make a point and now it’s fast becoming a ‘fact’.

I said if. Did you miss that bit.

Capology has him at 25k a week.

Salary sport at 44k a week.

Capology also states £1,300,000 per season.

Spotrac states $1,300,000 per season.

There's a discrepancy in that alone.  About £240,000 difference.

So they're all bollocks but suit whichever side of an argument you're on.

Coady is an absolute myth, plays a few cross field passes (which any PL player should be capable of) and talks a lot and is viewed as some sort of elite centre back. Didn’t even get a sniff last season.

Is one figure the year’s salary divided by 52 and the other divided by the number of weeks the league is active??

That'd be 29 weeks.

The weird thing about Okoli is that Cooper seemed to like him and started him in several games, rotating him in and out - and he's been called up for Italy.

It seems van Nistelrooy either doesn't like him or doesn't think he's ready to play Premier League football and prefers Coady, Vestergaard and Faes over him.

But, the kicker is that - as a unit - we've been incredibly poor defensively whoever has been in the team.

I think there's potential there, but I guess the smart play may well be to sell now while we can recoup a decent fee for him as his stock hasn't fallen much since he's been here. If we wait until we're relegated, then we could be stuck with a Soumare situation where we have to send him out on loan because his wages are too high and teams will try to lowball us on a fee knowing that we have to sell.

I do like him, though. Not fitting RVN's blueprint might be a bit shortsighted as he could be a beast under a different manager, but if we're relegated and need to sell him anyway then I guess it makes sense to get rid now since having him in the side never really improved us in the first place.

Tough call either way really.

No evidence for this but I think RvN hasn't got him in because he's probably not much of a communicator.  The only one in our back 4 that is is Coady.  And then Vesty and Faes already had a partnership from last season.  Ruud probably values a talker more.

No back at you! Okoli has played the vast majority of his games on the left hand side of our defence, playing instead of Verstergaard.

You see I thought that and remember Faes moaning a bit about being on the left, but had a look on Transfermarkt match reports to confirm it and they've got him as the right sided CB in all but those games I mentioned.  Hence the ?
