It feels a lot like being a Leicester fan TBH. The people in charge are making decisions that make no sense. The system feel broken beyond repair, and now you are just kind of hoping it will fail spectacularly to show the apathetic masses that they need to wake up and demand change.

The last time this country was this far apart politically, it ended with a Civil War.

Considering il Duce has four more years, what kind of change could take place.  People will come and go in his administration, but ultimately it will be swapping one sycophant for another.

Astute.

The only problem is that if it fails, that failure may not only be costly for the population of the US, but the entire world.

What's frightening about Marjorie Taylor Greene isn't how extreme and downright thick she is. It's how extreme and downright thick the people of her congressional district must be.

Jeremy Clarkson must have been referring to it when he said that, in certain parts of America, people had begun to mate with vegetables.

You're underestimating vegetables.

Massive earthquake across Myanmar and Thailand

7.7 on the magnitude scale with a 6.4 aftershock not long afterwards, apparently.

Heard from a friend there that he's safe, but there's understandably a lot of confusion over there right now.

Bangkok is quite a way from the epicentre so its alarming structures are falling down like that.

Temporary conditions are always the most susceptible in an accident.

You see a lot of fires in timber frame structures occur during construction rather than afterwards once all the protections are in place.

It’s getting harder to think who is more of an annoying smug pr*** each time they open their mouths between trump and Vance . Greenland clearly doesn’t want any of them there yet still went along. Hope everyone he seen there  ignored him and walked away so he can go crying to trump and musk because someone hurt his feelings

It's becoming parody at this point.

He argued that “Denmark has not kept pace in devoting the resources necessary to keep this base, to keep our troops, and in my view, to keep the people of Greenland safe” from Russia, China and other nations with interest in this area”.

He called for allies to “wake up from a failed 40-year consensus that said that we could ignore the encroachment of powerful countries as they expand to their ambitions” and said “we can’t just … bury our head in the snow”

So you're saying Russia are a threat that are expanding their borders JD? So, back to Ukraine...

Not sure where this Greenland saga ends.
What if Trump decided to fly his troops in and declare ownership, would Europe then back Denmark and declare war on USA.

Sounds far fetched but it could easily escalate the way things are going.

The unwavering belief in social Darwinism at a nation state level would be utterly farcical if it didn't have such tremendously dire consequences for the rest of our species.

I do think there’s an opportunity for Europeans to respond to this with words like:

”We very much agree with Vice-President Vance’s stated concerns over the threat of increased Russian aggression in the Arctic and elsewhere and we look forward to working closely with America on security regarding the matter.”

The whole thing is a joke isn’t it .

Russia didn’t start the war with Ukraine they will try and say then say they are a threat to Greenland that they probably don’t even care about or have time to worry about.
They need to concentrate on America before trying to take other places no one wants them in

It seems incredible that the US elected this bunch. For all the faults of the past US governments there was a sense of what was what. Now all turned upside down. Talk about the inmates have taken over the asylum

JD Vance saying Denmark isn't doing enough on the defence of Greenland, if I was the Danish pm I would immediately send thousands of Danish troops to Greenland saying were doing what America wanted and upping our defence. IId also invite EU troops to be stationed there!.

Problem is we have pathetic manpower and firepower. In the current situation, the US are absolutely right that Denmark and Greenland are woefully equipped and deals made in 2019 are yet to yield results. So there is fair criticism. Which Denmark acknowledge.

That said, the US have had a deal in place with Denmark and NATO since WWII that virtually allows them free reign over Greenland when it comes to military presence. I've not heard Vance or Trump faced with the questions of what exactly they desire Greenland for. They have access to military, they have access to resources but they've been unwilling to invest. Meanwhile, Denmark are paying the bill for i.e. social, judicial & health services, infrastructure and defense which runs up to € 600 mil yearly. I struggle to see what the motivations are besides being a vanity project and screwing over Greenland completely.

It’s a bit like when the in-laws turn up at the weekend. You just want some peace and quiet and they’re spouting off.

Those are the only motivations required for people like them.

Abuse of power and self interest are their own motivators.
