I think the point most people miss is that these people aren't supporting either side, just speaking out against evil wherever it is.

Speaking out against Israel and speaking out against Hamas are not mutually exclusive.

Exactly.

"For the enemy is not Troll, nor it is Dwarf, but it is the baleful, the malign, the cowardly, the vessels of hatred, those who do a bad thing and call it good." - Terry Pratchett, Thud!

And the worst thing about such of the baleful and the malign are that they try, so very hard, to put across that such malignity towards other human beings - and other life - is somehow justifiable because life has "always behaved that way" or "human nature" or somesuch. As if that is in any way a reasonable excuse for our species to follow suit.

Ìts OK for Pep to speak out as his paymasters are supporters of Palestinians where as Gary had to resign because the BBC is meant to be impartial. The issue is just too polarising if you support Palestinians you get called anti antisemitic and if you support Israel then your Islamaphobic.

I didn't that most evenings, no soapbox required.

They haven't done anything hugely obvious recently, probably as a result of being on the back foot from the IDF offensive.

News is exactly that, new stuff. If it was old stuff it would be called olds.

The public have a notoriously short memory, which all sides, and especially the media, exploit.

At the moment Hamas are happy to play the victim card, whilst probably hiding in civilian communities.

Doesn't make blowing up those communities right though. Two wrongs and all that.

Yeah, just like that National Treasure, Dawn French.

No idea why anyone is giving media luvvies and a football manager anymore attention than Dave down the pub whose opinion is equally valid.

Other than still holding 55 hostages to encourage Israel to attack in full knowledge that it will lead to horrible civilian casualties.

Maybe because Hamas are not razing Israel to the ground with the backing of the West, committing genocide while we watch on, and stealing Israeli land?

Not even the UK Government is calling it genocide. However, that is the stated aim of the Gazan terrorists. Oh, how quickly Oct 7th has been forgotten.

Not many people know Dave and his opinion goes largely without mention because he's not a "personality" outside and away from the pub.

Exactly so why are we so interested and give so much weight to the opinions of these personalities just because they're on our telly's?

Well, personally I don't give any weight to the likes of Dawn ( I used to be famous) French or Mourinho or any lightweight, flouncy, vapid so called "personality" and I probably wouldn't give much weight to the views of blokes down the pub either.

It's their opinion. The sad thing is Dave doesn't have access to an agent or a publicist like French and Mourinho and others do to progress that opinion into the media world.

For the press to get hold of it and publish their views, there must have been a deliberate act to do so.

So because he UK gov doesn't call it genocide, means it isn't?

The government here probably have their hands tied (through their own doing) as to why they won't call it a genocide. That doesn't mean it's not what's happening!

It's very fvcking weird to assume people have forgotten October 7th and then think that Israel aren't doing fvcking mad things over there. How would you feel if you got told to leave your home and go somewhere 'safe' to be resettled, and then the people that told you to go there bomb the shit out of that place too?

"It is the UK Government’s long-standing position that any formal determination as to whether genocide has occurred is a matter for a competent court, not for Governments or non-judicial bodies. The UK is fully committed to upholding our responsibilities under domestic and international law, and we have at all times acted in a manner consistent with our legal obligations, including under the genocide convention".

It is intolerable, shocking and utterly depressing what is happening in Gaza and the West Bank. Equally, the continued holding of innocent hostages under unimaginable  circumstances. The question was posed asking why 'celebs' aren't equally vocal about freeing the hostages and working towards a 2-state solution rather than spouting the Free Palestine mantra, a state that is not recognised by most of the world.

It's darkly impressive that Trumps claim that LA would be "burning to the ground" if the national guard hadn't been called in (unilaterally at his request) isn't even the top 10 biggest lies he has come out with.

Hopefully, at some point, he will finally get a much needed, very public, lesson in humility.

I admire your optimism, but I don't believe he would recognise that lesson if it sat him down and punched him in the face repeatedly.
