My absolute favourite player by far but posts on here are right, Vard was the poster boy for the cronyism problem this club has. Very much set the expectation that if you’re one of the boys you’ll get the keys to the city

If someone has treated you very well for a number of years, and you consider them a friend, when matters that are out of your control occur, why do you suddenly have to turn on those people because of some perceived action of treachery. You're forgetting that Vardy was the player who bullied that West Brom player at the half way line then carried the ball halfway up the pitch to score the winner in the 3-2 win over a decade ago, that he was the player who scored the winner against Burnley that same season, the player who scored 11 in a row and won us the league, the player who scored at Sevilla, the player who scored 20 in the league in 17/18 despite getting 0 service.

 

Vardy was one of the main reasons we were established in the Premier league in the first place, he always tried his hardest and fought to the very end. You cant blame him for being part of the culture that brought the club down when he was part of the culture that brought the club up originally.

 

Cremonese seem to be doing fine with him over there in Italy whilst we're falling apart more than ever. Compare the fight he showed to bully that Juventus defender then score the other day and the mentality to pick the ball straight out of the net to how our players reacted to going down against Blackburn. Vardy was the last piece holding the dam together rather than the reason it was breaking apart.

That does really back up @westernpark's point quite nicely though.

 

The players are happy regardless of what happens because they're treated extraordinarily well. Sure there might be the odd embarrassing or awkward moment, but at the end of the day they've got a cushy lifestyle with no real jeopardy.

 

It's why Rodgers makes himself to popular as well, give the lads plenty of money and they'll love you for it. I'd be the same as the players. But it is very much part of the reason why we're in this situation and the lack of effort on the pitch and regression of standards in the club is a testament to that.

I am sure Rudkin wanted vardy away since the promotion celebration when fans booed Rudkin and Vardy said knew we would do that! 
 

To add to your message, Vardy scored 10 goals in this absolutely dire team. 10! And media and other club fans think he is finished.

Talent has to be awarded financially or they'll go where it is. Vardy demonstrated that he was worthy of a fat pay packet and even in his last season, with a dire team, he got double digit goals. The problem is when you award mediocrity, weekly wages of 90k for Winks, 80k for Coady & Bertrand, +70k for Soumare and Daka, +60k for Vesty, Faes & Skipp. The list goes on. When you give such inflated salaries to mediocre players with zero loyalty, they'll leave you in a heartbeat, if they could get the same amount elsewhere. The fact non of them can, is why we're lumbered with them. They show no fight because they dont want to be here, and that's the crux of our problems, not Vardy.

I was so thrilled to see Vardy score the goal against Juventus.  Memories came flooding back. Not just the style of the goal, which was typical in itself, moreso that it was against Juve. 

How many times did Vardy single handedly wear down top 6 defences?  How many times did he score against them, even with poor service. I went to the Hull game, just as I did 2 years ago. In the latter, it was vintage Vardy; scoring a brace, giving it to the home fans and pulling their defenders apart all afternoon. We were generally poor that day, just as we were a fortnight ago. Who made the difference?

I miss him like mad and watching highlights of a vintage Vardy performance at Cremonese is good therapy.

Age and injuries caught up with him and he'd generally lost his effectiveness, although 10 goals in that team isn't disgraceful.

 

Him leaving meant the crowd had lost the spark. There is nothing left behind him, no player really that the fans have any enthusiasm for.

I can't disagree enough. Look up the definition of cronyism. This is a man who set the standard, and if anything challenged the reduction of standards behind the scenes. What is this based upon?

Everyone was. Was he more part of whatever it was that was malignant in our club's culture than Soumare, Faes, Vestergard and many, many others who had never been a part of the culture that brought the club up in the first place?

 

Your argument hinges on the idea that Vardy's influence, and the fact that he had so much influence, was a negative thing. So have we seen any sign of improvement since he's gone, as you might expect? And at what point did his influence go from being a good thing to a bad thing?

 

I'll bet, if you had to put a date on it, you'd go for some point in the final couple of years of Rodgers' reign - the time period which marked the departures of Morgan, Fuchs, Schmeichel, the more acrimonious exit of Fofana, and the arrival, for catastrophic sums, of the likes of Faes, Daka, Soumare and co. When Youri, Soyuncu and Evans clocked out. When Rodgers gave up. It's very peculiar, against that backdrop, that you'd single out Vardy, regardless of his wage or whether he's cordial with the chairman.

 

The majority of the most successful and influential players in our history have also had been part of a decline. It applied to Black, Chandler, Lochhead and Adcock in the 1930s. It happened to Shilton, Sjoberg, Rodrigues and Cross in the late 60s. Then to Weller, Sammels, Wallington and Rofe in the late 70s, and to Izzet, Savage, Elliott and Taggart in the early 2000s. It's a real shame to take the view - as some always choose to - that as club legends like these, and Vardy, grow older, and as less talented, less driven newbies appear all around them, often led by negligent or incapable managers, that it was they who were the real problem all along.

Vardy called last season an utter shit show and felt it was the right time to walk away from the club but not end his career. 
 

Those words and actions would suggest that he had enough of seeing declining standards and culture, and as more and more of the old guard moved on less and less ability to influence meaningful change. 
 

Roll forward another 5/6 months and look where we are now, it’s no coincidence. The manager has been thrown under a massive bus, there are still 6 or 7 of the current squad who have checked out but the club cannot afford to have them sat in the stands or banished from the squad so they continue to be involved and as a consequence results and performances continue to tank.

Can certainly see the possibility that Vardy had enough of what is going on at the club. 
I also think he was not offered a contract and had to look for an alternative move. With J Evans saying club didn’t even contact him. Same likely happened to Vardy.

 

I get your point on the manager being thrown under a bus, he certainly has handful of players like this. However, he does select the team. There is no need for Faes, Soumare, Thomas, Kristensen to be anywhere near the team. Why has he not played Aluko at all? Or Evans, and of course Nelson?

As I have said elsewhere I honestly believe that once the transfer window closed a number of our higher profile, high earners who looked to be on the way out but did not get moves had to be reintegrated into the match day squad. I really don’t believe this is who Marti wants to select or how he wants to play. I think his quote yesterday speaks volumes.

As i think year of the fox said it's best that he left when he did as he was starting to get some of the blame for our performances on the pitch. It's better that he's not stuck with us with these other rotters tarnishing his time here by association.

I don’t dispute your message .

it is a clear failing from board not to get rid Faes, Soumare, Thomas etc. 

 

I would though expect a manager to make best of the team he has. Marti is not doing that. 

his quote yesterday is interesting, but he picks the team. No need for certain players in the match day squad at all. To talk about youth and then keep these blockers in ahead of Nelson is dreadful. 
We all gave Marti a chance when he came in. I am yet to see any positive aspect of his coaching or decisions. His in game subs make us worse, every week. Talks a good game but far away from what we actually see. 
We all might have differing opinions on this. And it is certainly a difficult job. I just have not seen anything to say, Marti is a good coach and can see that the team are progressing.

Only having watched him for a few matches with Cremonese, I can't help but wonder why he didn't follow a lot of 'veteran' players and go to MLS.
