They don't just accept your word or a doctors for the average person. So on 70/80k a week 😆 not a chance. I had an insurance PI follow me for two weeks after a serious back injury. It only stopped after police stopped him to see who he was and my solicitor put in an extra claim for harassment. Let me introduce you to a man called Jonny Evans.
Popular Post smudgerfox Posted 24 July 2025 Popular Post Posted 24 July 2025 (edited) RvN for all his faults, was trying to improve professional standards to the level he experienced under Alex Ferguson and found a group of players glorifying in behaving like a pub team and a club unwilling to support him in addressing the issues he rightly raised. Football is NOT a normal job. The financial rewards mean it can never be so. And the trade-off is that you and your family - who benefit hugely from your earnings - have to accept that occasionally you will have to make personal sacrifices. Winks spent a whole year on loan at Sampdoria, so he knows that full well. Let's be honest he wouldn't have missed the Champions League final because of family commitments... His was a petulant act of defiance at a time when the club needed its senior players to put their shoulder to the wheel. And the Aperol/Copenhagen incidents were the clearest indication of his feelings for our club. Edited 24 July 2025 by smudgerfox 9 1
Spanner73 Posted 24 July 2025 Posted 24 July 2025 We do as well selling as we do buying and that doesn’t need explaining. link after link, season after season but the deadwood & driftwood stay because nobody wants them. Giving the wave goodbye on the last promotion day the previous season so I waved back “and yes you can go” he’s shite and then he realised that he’d never get the stupid wages we pay out and he signs up again and stays.

Not supporting his team in an hour of need. The sooner he's gone the fvcking better. Not worth anywhere near what we pay him. Imo he's on the next shelf up from Denis Wise. So one off of the floor. Get the cvnt out. Do you actually know he refused to attend? Or was he told to stay away?

brookfox Posted 24 July 2025 Posted 24 July 2025 One thing Ndidi does offer us is a bit of physical presence. We’ve lost Vardy as well who was surprisingly good at defending corners, if he does go it’d be good to get some power and athleticism as an option in the middle of the park. Good technique and passing is one thing, just think there’ll be games we need to match other teams physicality. 3

Personally all players should live within a reasonable distance from the ground 30/40 miles and no more. 80/90k a week I wasn't on that a year took a transfer and the company in the end wanted me to move closer to Bedford as they were paying travel. No excuse he's a selfish cvnt and RVN was not to blame. He's a professional sportsman on ridiculous money. RVN wanted him 100% on game day not traveling 200+ miles. RVN Wasn't upto it but don't call him out on this, he was totally right. NO player should be travelling like that for a home game ever. You want the money make the sacrifice ffs. To add. He's not got young kids at school. That could be a fair reason for not moving. Wasn't it that he didn't have kids under Enzo or Cooper. After his wife had a baby, he stopped wanting to stay overnight so he could spend more time with his baby. I don't think it's an unreasonable request, and I think even if it was it could have been managed in a far more professional way by Ruud. Regardless, for me everyone gets a clean slate under the new manager. The past is the past, and Winks can be a very useful player in a Marti Cifuentes Leicester team. 2

RVN was rubbish but how is he in any way to blame for this? Part and parcel of being a pro footballer would be that you are prepared to spend time away from home. These guys do not have normal jobs and if you're paid £80k a week to kick a ball, it is utterly unreasonable to ask for further concessions (and I say that as somebody who's very pro employee flexibility). Even if you want to compare it to a normal job, most normal jobs would have it in their contract that you will be asked to work away from home/days you are not normally contracted to. 1

Fair enough if you care but I'm really not bothered where they live tbh. Lots of players live far away and this was the first time we've had a fall out like this. I remember listening to a podcast where Kasper said a lot of our title winning team would travel down on match days from Manchester. If it is an issue, manage it in-house. Briefing publicly against a new dad's professionalism is not a way to deal with an internal matter. 1
JimJams Posted 24 July 2025 Posted 24 July 2025 The whole thing stank of RvN waving his bollocks around trying to deflect. 4

My point was that the idea that further concessions should be made for footballer's who already have it so easy, is a ridiculous argument (very serious life matters aside). He's being asked to do something similar to what most people will have to in their careers. This was also at a time when the team was underperforming and players had been undermining the current manager(s) with their pining for Enzo. And I expect footballers to make sacrifices for all the privileges they get in such a short career whilst they are owned by a football club (a concept that again separates them from most normal people) Also, I've never seen the article/video where RVN told the media that Winks was not in the squad because he refused to stay 1 night. Feel free to correct me if there is something directly from him, or rather, if he was the one leaking the conversation.

And when he went public about it, that would have ruled out any chance of reconciliation. Ruud was successful because the majority of our fan base despise him now and he’s not really done a lot wrong other than not being good enough in the prem, for the role that was asked of him

Wasn’t he rumoured to have told a city fan that he wanted Cooper gone about a month in? Posting pictures out for drinks while we were losing? Ive definitely heard from a Spurs fan with contacts that he was trying to get managers sacked there and with all of that combined it tells a story

We wanted him gone as well. Is it a bad thing on your character if you get a new boss who’s hopeless and you and your coworkers talk about that? the Enzo sign was a bad look, but at the end of the day it was a group having a laugh, don’t think it’s as bad as people make out. And the last point, could all just be hearsay. Sounds similar to people saying vardy and kasper were snakes. Doubt there’s much to it as players know they have little say and definitely not winks in the spurs dressing room at the end of the day I don’t know the bloke but neither does anyone else on here. Seems nice enough and if he doesn’t cause trouble and does well on the pitch I’m happy to have him. Edited 24 July 2025 by Lambert09 1

Absolutely, a lot of that is hearsay, but it sounds like he has caused trouble but football is fickle and if he helps to get us promoted again we will forget it all. But I’d love to see us have a likeable group of players who will do anything for the cause again, and on what happened last season I’m not sure he is that.

Players got Ranieri, Puel, Cooper and RvN sacked and have a direct line to Top. A whole cohort of players deliberately ran down their contracts to the financial detriment of the club and there are "players" more than happy to take King Power money for walking their dogs around Seagrave. in the match before Copenhagen , Winks mysteriously went off with a first half injury and just a few hours later was seen bouncing ip and down in Copenhagen under that witless sign for Enzo. Add in Aperol Sunday and the babycare brouhaha and to me he self identifies as someone who should never play for us again.. 1

Every single manager you’ve listed was fired justifiably. Theres not a single one that should have had a day longer in the job imo, so how that gets spun as the players getting them fired is beyond me. senior pros are asked their honest thoughts and share. It’s not the same thing. I’d be more worried if we were firing managers without assessing the feeling within the squad first tbqh.

I’m in the huge minority but I like winks’ character on the pitch. You can see he visually communicates. He’s always in the refs ear. He brought back a bit of the dark arts that we lacked and helped us learn a bit of gamesmanship. I’m not sure if he’s a popular figure around the club but I’d put a dollar on the fact that he would be. Time will tell because if his attitude isn’t good, it will show up quickly and he doesn’t have much patience in the bank from the fans. The club was a shambles last year and I think some of the players are taking heat from that. I find we get mad at the Amazon driver for the company being a demonic cesspit 1

Sorry mate, I didn't mean any offence I'm invested in this issue because my wife had post-natal depression and we have a friend whose wife killed herself with post-partum psychosis. While I don't know Winks' personal situation, my life experience is that early parenthood can be really difficult. This literally became an issue as soon as Winks became a dad. it was clearly mishandled - RVN banished a player who had been starting from the squad. Being a dad / husband comes first and commuting in the morning instead of travelling the day before feels a small trade-off, which plenty of footballers do. Regardless, I say what's been has been - let's give the lads still with the club a clean slate under a new manager 3

I'm not going to get too upset though about people who have zero knowledge of this type of issue or experience managing people in tricky situations or understanding of the fine margins between high performance and meh. Its Friday after all!
