World Cup Qualifiers Headline Upcoming Internationals
Jordan James

by Sam Jones

Nine Foxes have been called into their nation’s squad for September’s international fixtures and are set to jet off around the globe this week.

Jordan James (Wales) and Jannik Vestergaard (Denmark) are readying for FIFA World Cup qualifiers
Jordan Ayew (Ghana) and Patson Daka (Zambia) also continue their quest to reach the 2026 tournament
Ben Nelson, Jeremy Monga and Louis Page could all feature for England youth teams
Under-21s pair Chris Popov (Wales) and Ryan Donnelly (Northern Ireland) begin UEFA U21 EURO qualifying

New loan signing Jordan James has headed straight off to Kazakhstan with Wales, as he prepares for their latest FIFA World Cup qualifier.
The Dragons’ fifth Group J fixture takes place at Astana Arena on Thursday (3pm kick-off) with Craig Bellamy’s side sitting second in the group, one point behind leaders North Macedonia.
Wales then head back home for a friendly against Canada at Swansea.com Stadium on Tuesday 9 September (7:45pm kick-off).

Jannik Vestergaard, meanwhile, has two World Cup qualifiers on the horizon with Denmark, opening their Group C campaign. Firstly hosting Scotland at Parken Stadium this Friday, Brian Riemer’s men then travel to Greece’s Karaiskakis Stadium three days later (both 7:45pm kick-offs).
Over in Africa, Jordan Ayew is once again in the Ghana squad for a double-header of 2026 World Cup qualifiers, with the Black Stars heading into matchday seven sitting top of Group I, holding a three-point lead over Comoros.
Facing Chad at Stade Olympique Maréchal Idriss Deby Itno on Thursday afternoon (2pm kick-off), a home fixture against Mali comes next on Monday 8 September, back at Accra Sports Stadium (8pm kick-off).
Fellow forward Patson Daka is also in line to take part in World Cup qualification this week, as Zambia meet Morocco at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium next Monday (2pm kick-off). Currently third in the standings, on six points from five games, their opponents top Group E.

In the youth age groups, Ben Nelson, Jeremy Monga and Louis Page have all earned England call-ups this week. Nelson and the Under-21s face the long trip to Kazakhstan next Monday, kicking off the new UEFA U21 EURO qualifying campaign under Lee Carsley at Ortalyk Stadion (4pm kick-off). It would be the centre-back’s debut at that level should he feature in Aktobe.

It’s a busy week for Will Antwi’s Under-19s, with the young Lions facing Ukraine, Spain and the Netherlands. All three fixtures are being held at Pinatar Arena in Spain on Wednesday (10am kick-off), Saturday (10am kick-off) and next Tuesday (11:30am kick-off) respectively, with 16-year-old Monga in line for his first appearance at that age group.
It's also a hectic schedule for Page in his first Under-18s camp, coached by Neil Ryan, competing in the Costa De La Luz tournament at Estadio Antonio Barbadillo in Spain. Taking on Uzbekistan this Wednesday (4pm kick-off), the young Lions come up against Morocco three days later (4pm kick-off). The competition ends against Canada next Tuesday (11am kick-off).

Development Squad forward Chris Popov is once again linking up with Wales Under-21s for a meeting with Denmark at Rodney Parade next Monday (7:30pm kick-off), beginning their qualification campaign for the U21 European Championship on home soil.
A day later, it’s the turn of fellow Under-21s prospect Ryan Donnelly, who has linked up with Northern Ireland Under-21s for their trip to Georgia next Tuesday (5pm kick-off), fresh from scoring against
in Premier League 2 last week.

No Ben Nelson in the squad for the England U21s despite being called up. Has he picked up a knock?

They can’t pick all the squad so maybe he’s left out on the basis he can’t get into our starting line up!

Chris Popov scored the 2-0 goal for Wales U21 against Denmark.

Denmark won 6-2 with Popov subbed at 3-2 on 63 minutes. Bit of an implosion there from Wales.
