More tax rises coming as the welfare bill they tried to get through was diluted to basically nothing, so there is the next black hole (£5.5bn) Rachel will need to fill.

PMQ's should be tasty today, he's lost the confidence of his own MPs now who've rightly humiliated him.

It's so much easier (and cheaper, and nicer) to not address a small problem now and let it be someone else's problem when it becomes a big problem later.

Short term thinking. But that's not a UK-specific issue, sadly.

I know what your getting at as a wider issue with the world and things like climate change. I just meant in this country it appears to be the attitude that we are happy to be aware of something being broken and to just ignore it. Like the post office system, the cladding on buildings like Grenfell, child sexual abuse inquiry etc. In these instance I don't think its a case of let it be someone else's problem, its just people don't care. Small problem or big problem, they just have no interest in actually doing anything if it might require some effort or financial outlay.

Nah, I wasn't referring just to big picture issues in this case, it was more that other places ignore the small picture issues in the same way the UK often does.

I do agree wholeheartedly that is a big problem both in the UK and the wider world.

I wonder what the solution is, if indeed there is one.

New Leader and tax rises by the looks of it

I was thinking what jobs do they think disabled (mainly with physical issues ) people can easily do if they have to work.

Businesses are cutting costs and jobs and it's all about communication/technology now.

I am not sure I'd get a job in retail now if I applied for one as an example?

That isn't to say they shouldn't try or want to but not sure there are the chances out there these days.

I know mental  health is often seen as an excuse by some for people not working but that really has come to the fore in recent years .

Definitely the way Royal Mail works. For years they've been trying to work with "bolt-on" solutions to delivering parcels with the mail, when what it needs is to be completely stripped back and totally change the way it's done from start to finish.

But no.

Given you both have the same character in your bio pic, you're clearly in collaboration with one another so no, it doesn't.

The problem is that people still act as if the 90’s and 2000’s are the norm whereas they were actually the abnormal boom. Post 2008 it’s been a slow decline while everything lead up to the late 80’s was beset with societal and economic issues. So as living standards have dropped, more people are experiencing mental health problems and disability to the extent where it affects their ability to work. In the 60’s or 70’s the mentally unwell men would drink their problems away, while the women would stay at home. Now we do better than drink our issues away and more women work so we’re in completely new ground historically.

Felt sorry for Rachel Reeves today, seeing her cry was sad.  People should not be put in roles they are not capable of doing.
