Teen rescued on Norfolk beach on live TV watched as sand vanished - BBC News

https://share.google/QXu5giu7op3uSVtPH

Kaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan!!!

This happened to a lad I knew at Great Yarmouth we were about 50 yards from the shore standing on sand that was just below the surface when all of a sudden it disappeared, we swam/ran back to the shore up to our necks but one lad was left behind. One of the older lads there saw him and swam out and saved him.

Ironically a few years later he was having a bath at his home when an electric fire fixed to the wall above the bath fell into the bath an electrocuted him. This might sound crazy having an electric bar fire above the bath but I bought a house that need upgrading that had exactly that, removing it was the first thing I did. It also had a stand alone oven and hob with a socket in the back and there was a kettle plugged into it with the lead, already charred hanging over one of the hobs

Did you people not watch kids TV in which almost every trip to beach seemed to involve either quicksand or fast moving tides of peril? :)

BBC News - Heathrow shutdown caused by problem found seven years ago

https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cly22eelnxjo

If there was ever a news story that could sum up this country over past decade or so, this is probably it.

It's so much easier (and cheaper, and nicer) to not address a small problem now and let it be someone else's problem when it becomes a big problem later.

Short term thinking. But that's not a UK-specific issue, sadly.

Or thought about peeling skin from sunburn which was a rite of passage or the turds floating in the sea although that seems to have made a bit of a comeback.
