It never was about peace, that was just a snake oil selling point.

It was always about using government apparatus to inflict cruelty and sadism on "undesirable" demographics. They just tried to do a good job of dressing it up in rhetoric.

Either people can't see through the PR, choose not to, or know it's going on and are totally fine with the cruelty.

That's pretty much all the right have to sell nowadays- performative cruelty.

The mainstream right here and in the US have only had neoliberalism and austerity to offer, and that has unfortunately infected the mainstream centre-left too.

So how do they set themselves apart?

They build a narrative of us and them. "Immigrants, LGBTQ people, women wanting abortions, lefties etc are the enemy. And we will make them suffer." They present their own greed and tax dodging as smart and indicative of success, and present any attempts at even mild taxation as 'envy politics' and 'economically reckless.' So their voters get even deeper economic neoliberalism and austerity, but get to cheer on the suffering of those they've been conditioned into thinking have caused their lives to be shit while simultaneously worshipping those who have actually made their lives shit.

'lolololol, they're deporting the immigrants/reintroducing Section 28/banning abortion/toughening up protest laws. Look how triggered the left are. Well worth having to pay £50 and wait eight weeks for a doctor's appointment, because I won't have to once all of them have been deported/stopped from seeing a doctor.'

Absolutely scoobied, the lot of them. They deserve Reform, but we don't.

:D that was on purpose, to take the piss.  Reminds me of more the barman on the episode where they vote to kick out immigrants.

Good to see the grammar/spelling police is still in force.

The only thing I'll add here is that next to no one deserves the outcome of that kind of governance taken to its logical outcome in the long (or even medium) term. It...really wouldn't be great.

I do wish more people had an idea of just how precarious and complex our systems are, and how easy even a little pressure, even a few ignored problems, would cause so many problems, fossil records and cautionary tales for the next supposedly smart species.

It's interesting that none of their supporters can answer the question of why they're so excited for a Reform government with anything other than how it will negatively impact upon others.

'They'll get rid of the immigrants.'

'The left will be triggered.'

'Trans people won't be able to use the toilet of the gender they identify with.'

That's it.

Add "I don't think the effects of climate change will affect me directly, just other people".

That one has the bonus of being inaccurate, too.

The thing with some of the Boomer Generation is that 'other people' will be their kids and grandkids, and they still don't care so long as they don't have the inconvenience of having to charge their Motability BYD at Tesco for an hour or paying an extra £10 a month on their gas bill. Incredibly selfish and entitled generation.

... but all of this being said, I am very much happy to hear arguments as to why the UK and the wider world won't go to hell in a handbasket if this path is pursued, because, you know, it would be nice to actually have some logical reasons for hope and, speaking personally, survival of our society is always the highest priority of that society.

If anyone can oblige, that is.

Imagine the scenes on here when reform win the next election

Doesn’t need to be here. Imagine the scenes when communities across inner city areas are in riots ala Maggie’s spell in 1980s in Toxteth, Brixton, Handsworth et al

It's simply undeniable that the Boomer generation has voted, and continues to vote, in short-term self-interest regardless of individual exceptions such as looking after grandkids.

You are poorer under Labour because of decisions made by Boris and his subsequent replacements. Tough financial decisions. Unless the next government is going to shit money out of their backsides the same is continuing

Tell me why you are so excited for this prospect, your favourite Reform policies and how you think they will benefit you.

Spell it out in clear, unambiguous terms. Let us leftie plebs know why we should defect to Reform and be excited about the prospect of them being in government.

The floor is yours.

Hang on a second, where have I said I am voting reform 🤣🤣

leftie plebs is fitting, though.
