This is interesting - I must have spoken to 3-4 people in the last month who have done this and regretted their decision. Sometimes it is better the devil you know eh

Not at all. Most of the Tories should be in jail or are just awful awful people.

Excuse me 🤣 are you actually saying I am making this up? Or are you just disagreeing without reading my comment. Incredible

I was referencing your final sentence. Probably should have edited the quote, so my bad.

I've got no doubt that plenty of Labour voters are seeing nothing changing and regretting their vote. Problem is it was so bad under rhe Conservatives it's not going to be a quick turnaround.

When it went off, I was talking to an elderly lady who didn't have a phone. Her startled expression was something else. I had to explain to her it wasn't the start of WW3

The thing with some of the Boomer Generation is that 'other people' will be their kids and grandkids, and they still don't care so long as they don't have the inconvenience of having to charge their Motability BYD at Tesco for an hour or paying an extra £10 a month on their gas bill. Incredibly selfish and entitled generation.

What and who are the "boomer generation"?

If you mean people of 65-70 yrs old I can assure I am NOT selfish nor entitled. I and hundreds of thousands of people of my age contribute a lot where we can and if we're able.

In response to your post, I regret to say... **** off. You don't know me or what I do. More generalisation bollox.

My brother in Christ, I am talking about demographics rather than individuals.

Let's hope that mirrors election results come 2026 and 2028.

Tbf he did say "some" rather than "all" in a generalisation.

I said earlier that such self interest does span generations, but there is at least a certain lean in voting patterns towards parties that govern self interest with age.

That being said, I think age is far from the most critical demographic divide in this case.

I did think it was fairly clear that I hadn't said that everyone over 60 was a selfish bellend, but evidently I wasn't clear enough.

As a generation, though, the reality is that swathes of that particular demographic have voted consistently in short-term self-interest over decades from Thatcher here and Reagan in the US offering tax breaks and opportunities to climb the social ladder (see Thatcher's Right to Buy scheme,) dismantling the Keynesian economic system that gave them a strong state to fall back on if the brown stuff hit the fan.

In so doing, a lot of the safeguards that the first post-war generation could depend on were removed for their children and grandchildren such as affordable rents, free university and so on. As said generation have aged, many have tended to vote for whichever party will give them the most comfortable retirement rather than the party who will give their children and grandchildren the best start. Again, some but not all. Perhaps not even a majority, but certainly a big enough minority of a high turnout in FPTP to pretty much dictate the nation's political direction of travel.

And when their children's and grandchildren's generation campaign or advocate for something better that will give them a chance of owning their home? Selfish! Lazy! Stop buying coffees and Netflix if you want to get a £60,000 deposit together for a house! What about the pensioners? etc etc.

Please don't make me trawl through your posts on this thread to quote generalisations that you have made.

Believe me I am that sad.

That's a theory, but to what end?

It still ends as well for them as everyone else, eg. badly.

Indeed, but they're certainly behind GB news. Clearly just don't gaf what happens after they've gone

The fact that 44% still approve of him is terrifying. Like when we were deep in the pandemic and people kept breaking lockdowns and spreading the virus thereby prolonging the lockdowns, we're being held hostage by millions of ****ing idiots.

I was hoping for someone to explain a different conclusion to that, because it is also the one I've arrived at and it would be nice to have at least some idea that we're not screwed.

The terrifying idea for me is that 44% now - and possibly more at the time - support the idea of a directly violent coup against the result of a free and fair election, given that is exactly what the man directly incited four and a half years ago.

This New Zealand story is a Netflix documentary in the making. Not read the ins and outs of it but glad the kids have been found, relatively unharmed. Although brutal for one of them to see their dad shot in the head.
