He's definitely some type of weirdo in private, either religious or sexual. Just look at his reactions to Ricky Gervais Golden Globe roasts. Plus he was friends with Epstein too IIRC.

Cynical.

Hanks, famously collects typewriters. That's how much of a threat he is.

This entire flag thing is ridiculous.

I drove through Coalville yesterday and every lamppost has a bloody England flag on.

Then the wife told me they’d crowdfunded on a local spotted page to do it.

I was like “WTF”, why on earth would you do that to make it look more trashy!

Doesn’t seem that long ago since the last election they had .

Next one is due on 2027, and Macron, in spite of what has happened today and Le Pens rabble-rousing rhetoric, doesn't need to have one till then.

Could this be elaborated on a bit? Not sure what's meant by it.

Nah, it's perfectly reasonable to think that Gervais is both a good comic and a hypocritical dick while being clean yourself.

In any case, the alignment of most of the accusers and that they'll defend far more likely weirdos tells me all I need to know about how accurate their accusations likely are.

It's part a concerted nationalist campaign. Similar to movements seen across the world right now.

The world doesn’t feel in a good place right now.

We’ve been here before, however it feels like we’re spiralling downward currently.

We’ll be have full on pitchforks and torches out come the next St George’s day at this rate.

Just wait until these nationalist governments ignore changing weather patterns for long enough to cause serious vital resource crises in a lot of areas...

I don't like the term bigot.

'Definition of a bigot: a person who is obstinately or intolerantly devoted to his or her own opinions and prejudices. especially : one who regards or treats the members of a group (such as a racial or ethnic group) with hatred and intolerance.'

If I was to accuse someone, or a group, of being a bigot what would that make me? A bigot?

Ah, thank you for the clarification.

Far be it from me to second-guess the intentions of the OP, but perhaps a generalisation wasn't being made and the referral was to a set of people who are weaponising the current sentiment for reasons that are..well,  yes, bigoted. These people exist, are active, and are trying to drive the narrative. If that's somehow controversial, I'd be happy to know why.

WRT the last paragraph, I believe Popper had some good words to say on that.

Well, then with that being equal, the next destination is social and science policy.

... are they just as bad as each other on those?

It's disingenuous to equate either and it's not even worth indulging in devil's advocate. It's like giving time to a flat earther.

Yeah, that's fair.

I do like hearing any kind of attempts at justification from such parties regarding policy areas that IMO they can't so easily use the same "all the same" line on, though.

Yes, This was my thought.

Like these roadside memorials that keep cropping up.

Someone was killed in a traffic accident near us and over the coming days and weeks, a quite beautiful display of flowers, cards and so on were placed near the scene.

Two weeks later and beyond, it looked like someone had fly tipped.

Show some social responsibility and go back and either clear up or replace your 'memorial'

The flag thing, is an interesting one. Palestinian flags were plentiful in areas of this city and I dare say elsewhere up and down the land. There were no where near the amount of comments that has followed the national flag that is now prevalent.

I blame immigrants.

Now that was tongue in cheek. However, growing up I can only ever recall the Union Flag being in evidence at England matches (I know, I know) and being flown over the houses of Parliament. The first flag I saw in my neighbourhood was a Jamaican one. There then followed a South African one. A Union Jack was then flown by another neighbour. It slowly propagated there after

I would rather not see any flag waving at all.

My only other observation would be however, national flags can be flown with impunity in other nations, here, there is a debate which, sadly, I've just added to.

Labour have cleaned up their act IMO. Only 1 MP been sentenced to prison so far in this parliament is much better than the last one. Credit where credit is due.

I find it a little troublesome that these discussions have little self awareness of their own part in the division underpinning the current state of society.

Yeah, this is true. However, on some topics, the discussion, arriving at some kind of consensus one way or another, is not just desirable, it's a necessity.

I wonder if in some small way the England and Union flags were a reaction to the Palestinian flags appearing up and down the country

That may be the reason some people say they're doing it.

Whether it's actually the case is another chat entirely.

Do we need to question the motives of all flag wavers if division may result
