I think certain aspects of multiculturalism as it plays out in some English cities are quite worrying. Immigration is good and I want to be able to emigrate easily myself; ghettoization is not so good. Don't think what he said was that controversial.

I went to Skegness the other day (not my choice I'd add) and after a while I thought that something felt weird, then I realised what it was... I hadn't seen anyone of colour (unless you count fake tan).

 

Over the course of about 4 hours I counted 3 people with a natural skin tone darker than alabaster. Surely that's one of the worst integrated places in the UK?

 

Ironically, this is Reform heartland. Intensively worried about immigrants, even though they barely have any.

Not integrated with what? I'm confused what you mean here. Integration usually means integrated with the cultures, language and traditions of the country.

Are you saying that if you went to Handsworth or Highfields and the said publicly that you didn't see one white face, people wouldn't call you out?

 

If you had said you saw many people that were living in a thriving community without mentioning skin colour that would be seen as a positive observation and rightly so. Jenerick, who I assume you support, made his observation on the basis of a persons skin colour not their contribution in whatever way to their community.

 

On that basis, it definitely smacks of racism. 

 

What did he expect to see in the area he visited?

Oh if it was a labour MP she would have been all over it.

I tend to think of it as people happily coexisting, living and working together, despite potentially having didn't cultures, language and traditions. As a country we probably need to decide what we mean so we know what we're aiming for. Maybe that could be a first step in bringing together the different sides to see if there's a version of integration we can all live with.

I can honestly say that having been born and bred in Leicester  in 1971 and lived through the NF times in the 80s this era seems the worst since that time.

Its truly worrying  how covert racism is now widely accepted throughout.

At least in the good old days you knew where you stood.

 

Luckily the vast majority of " Pure English" people are decent as in the majority of posters on here👍🏾

He's cast a whole net over a group of people without really knowing anything about everyone of them. It's a massive generalisation and just downright unnecessary. 

 

It's barely fine to even make the observation, but to verbalise it in the way he did clearly shows what he's thinking inside.

When they're all about wanting unity they go about a funny way of demonstrating it...

It's been accepted for generations why is it such a big deal now all of a sudden.

Highfields was always classed as predominantly blacks but is now muslim.

Rushed Meads/ Melton Rd= Gujuratis / Indians

Saffron Lane/ Beaumont leys was white

 

Evington rd/ Narborogu Rd is now eastern Europeans whereby Evinton Village is mixed.

 

None of it is ideal but it's always been okay and accepted?

Mostly we seem to get along with each other despite the enclaves that seem to be growing. 

 

In my own personal experience when I was working, I rarely came across anyone that was nothing other than reasonable in whatever "community" I was in.

Sure, I'd expect him to be called out. But an observsation isn't racism. I'm not saying he wasn't racist, I only read one article about it but didn't see any prejudice or discrimination, just observation.

Context of the post you replied to was a near 100% white demographic of Skegness.... Not sure why you are talking about Jenrick.
