There have been a few talking heads suggesting that Iran and the Strait debacle could be the USA's Suez Crisis. Certainly, Europe is pivoting away from their sphere of influence at lightning speed. While Russia is too busy imploding to take advantage of any such vacuum in global power, China must be licking their lips at the thought of the USA throwing away their connections and allies for the sake of keeping Bibi happy and minds off the Epstein files. I'm sure Taiwan, Japan and South Korea are viewing the Trump presidency with muted horror. For US allies in the Middle East, reality is already biting as Iran fires back.

 

It was ten years ago that the spectre of an 'EU Army' was a contributing factor to Brexit. At the time if you'd asked me, I'd have hated the idea, but the world has changed so much that it's now palatable compared to the status quo. The US is not our friend and we would be wise to join the continent's effort to collectively protect ourselves. At the rate it's going, it will probably happen with us involved in some way anyway, unless NATO manages against odds to survive in its current form past the next US election.

 

To be honest, the US can throw all the multi-million dollar missiles at Iran that it wants: in this new era where Ukraine has shown cheap drones costing as little as $2000 a pop to be far more cost effective and the biggest leveller since Guerilla Warfare, I'd rather we were aligning with the continent and innovative thinking rather than the hideously expensive military-industrial complex Donald and Co. are tied to. Big bombs and body counts don't win wars any more. Russia can tell you that.

Very interested in these Hungarian elections on Sunday. The polls show Orban -  Trump and Putin’s biggest ally in the EU about to lose. Could be a very telling in a number of ways:

 

1. If this is starting to see MAGA-ism/right-wing populism losing steam in Europe, because of the association with Trump, as Farage and LePenn’s numbers have started to reverse over the past few months.
 

2. If it is clearly not a free and fair election if the EU finally decides to stand up to it and kick Hungary out for no longer being a democratic country 

 

3. If Orban loses and inevitably tries the “the election was rigged” incitement from the MAGA playbook, if Hungary/the EU properly stand up to it for democracy like Brazil did to Balsanaro and  properly put him trial for trying to overthrow democratic rule and judge him for lifetime imprisonment rather than just sit there and pretend it didn’t happen and happily sit back and watch democratic culture get eroded like the US did with Trump and just let him get back in power 4 years later.

I highly suspect that Orban will either go down fighting ( he has a lot of friends in their military)  or bring some skullduggery into the election process.  Or maybe a bit of both. Aided and abetted by Russia of course who I don’t think planned for the waning support of  right wing governments across Europe. Right wing sentiment was supposed to be on the rise  with a somewhat multi-national propaganda campaign about ‘ naughty & terrible’ immigrants

It’s possible that the Americans sent weapons destined for Iranians to help them try and rise up against the regime to a Kurdish group aligned to Iran. I suppose that level of ineptness shouldn’t surprise anyone.

Begining to lose sympathy for the Dr Strikes. Fully agree on the needing more training roles however. A 6 day strike just after a BH is a bit of a dick move, NHS urging people with concerns to still come in though.

Israel well known for following deadlines and instructions when it comes to military action... War Criminal Bibi wanted to get in there first. 



Kharg Island hit overnight wiping out the military targets. If I had to guess, if this isn't a usual TACO Tuesday, boots on the ground by breakfast tomorrow. Would that then be classed as Gulf War 3? 

Trump has done his usual backing into a corner. Iran ignore these deadlines and threats that Europe didn't over Greenland. His playbook is threaten and give deadline and if you miss it, he has no back up plan, so does it again. That first sentence of that Tweet is genocidal, pure and simple.

The worrying thing is that Iran has nothing to lose, so Trump either has to back down and be humiliated or escalate and escalate. Though that post is so insane that I think it’s a bluff, but you just don’t know. If he orders a nuclear strike, no one is going to stop him and that’s terrifying.

That's true, though having the VP himself visiting at the present time does send its own message and we'll see how Trump reacts should his buddy lose.

... any sane person familiar with the situation anywhere in the world must just be wondering how this has all come to this.
