I see Trump is saying there's no one in Iran left to speak with. I'll give it a fortnight before he's proposing a puppet government put in place by him to lead the country "on an interim basis" (give me all the oil).

Trump > Farage > Truss > BoJo

Quite scary Boris is so far down the list.

He really isn’t

I mean lots of people have spoken to and watched him pre and post interview where he switches character and ruffles up his hair (including people I personally know), but OK.

Noticeable in the very different framing for Polanski being a scammer yet Johnson being an intelligent man who puts on an act for great success to him. Especially from a poster supposedly “left of the Lib Dems” I have to say.

How long before Mt Rushmore gets a fifth head?

On the upside, the redneck, trailer park MAGA zealots won't be able to afford one.

I have a vision of one of the above biting the coin to check it's real and breaks their last rotting tooth.

Some of the things he's been reported as saying are more bizarre than Biden.

But DT isn't willing to talk to anybody in the Iranian government otherwise we'd not be where we are now.

They won't. They aren't that insightful.

What an odd comment. Do you think saying someone is intelligent means they aren’t a charlatan too and I support them?

My own political leaning and views has no relevance to the character and intelligence of other people.

Do you not think becoming mayor of London and PM is a success for someone like Johnson who wanted nothing more and was prepared to do anything to get there?

All an act with Johnson too, he's a very intelligent man that plays a character, and to great success for him.

My brother's girlfriend used to work on the desk next to him when they both worked at the Daily Telegraph. He was apparently, always late on his deadlines and always down the pub or at some function. Desk was an absolute tip.

Because he’s chaotic and doesn’t give a shit. Privileged upbringing and entitlement.

Yes. I think he is intelligent and educated, although he ought to be bearing in mind the cost of his education.  He probably used to dumb It down and keep It simple for the voters. Quoting Socrates and using Latin phrases isn't a vote winner

I never said you did - that’s what framing means, it means you say things in a clever way and leave things out so that you can say “what? Do you think that means x?” to give yourself plausible deniability despite the fact it’s quite obvious the extreme difference in the language you’re using around Polanski and Johnson when discussing very similar contexts. One was someone who your overwhelming first point was attacking them for scamming and you won’t even read further on any replies by people saying it wasn’t relevant, the other was first about their intelligence and eruditeness with anything underhand as an after thought.

I also don’t think you’re stupid, you’re clearly an intelligent person, and I don’t think you’re this naive either to not understand what framing means or how you’re framing things differently.

Your claimed political leanings are extremely relevant because of the way you clearly misrepresent them - if it was a one off maybe, but it’s in all of your posts. If you were just honest about being clearly right wing then it wouldn’t be relevant. But when you’re keeping up with this bizarre rhetoric claiming you’re left of the Lib Dems then it when the way you constantly frame right of centre policy with dog whistling type praise first designed as criticism but then do scathing rants against anything remotely left of centre, then it obviously is sn issue. It’s you who’ve created those relevances for yourself by using the very disingenuous “I’m actually left of the mainstream British centrist party” rhetoric.

It’s the slippery slope onto what that Bond villain Elon Musk does - claims he’s actually a centrist who offers “nuanced debate” while supporting the AfD and Viktor Orban and ranting about racial purity and calling whatever the latest right wing bogeyman is a “cancer” or “mind virus” 12 times a day. I say it because I think you’re an intelligent person and I genuinely think you’re better than stooping to that.

Honestly not even sure how to reply to that other than I’m sorry it’s clearly upset you so much. I don’t like either Johnson or Polanski for the record, the former did immeasurable damage to the country and the latter I fear is capable of further damage if he got near power. I’m happy to admit I’m obviously to the right of you and probably the majority of the regulars on this thread. If you want to call me far right or whatever that’s fine, it makes absolutely no difference to me or the content of the posts on here.

I think he's probably intelligent but also incredibly lazy. So while he could use the intelligence wisely, his lack of knowledge due to laziness has always meant it being rather wasted.

His 'character' was basically somebody that wanted to be PM. His backing of Brexit was very clearly designed simply to position him against Cameron, but I don't believe he really believed in it, as shown by the ashen face at the press conference the day after leave won. He played a large part in hugely undermining our economy, friendships across Europe, and the fabric of our society, just to play political games.

100% spot on. Of course he never believed Brexit, it was all a lie, “oven ready deal” he was just winging the whole thing. It didn’t affect him though as he was too rich to feel the fallout of the damage Brexit did.

Back to Polanski as I'd genuinely be interested in exploring his policies with you to see what we think of we discuss them honestly. For transparency, it's no surprise I've been voting Labour in recent years but I've always kinda rooted for the greens to do better due to their environmental stance. I do like a lot of what Polanski is saying though, I'll likely vote strategically next time around but I like the cut of his gib, so to speak.

We kinda had a go at the drugs issue. Pointing at Portugal's success with a similar policy apparently didn't carry much weight though. Do you tend to go with what makes sense to you - common sense, if you will - rather than empirical data or comparators elsewhere?

What policy should we look at next?
