The Earth's climate is further out of balance than at any time in recorded history, the UN's weather agency has warned.

The World Meteorological Organization says that our planet is gaining much more heat energy than it can release, driven by emissions of warming gases such as carbon dioxide.

This record "energy imbalance" heated the ocean to new heights last year and continued to melt our planet's ice caps.

And scientists fear that a natural warming phase called El Niño – expected to begin later this year - could soon bring further heat records.

Because in the interests of balance it's correct to put nasty events like this on a par in terms of priority with events of mass death and suffering. Apparently. 

 

But speaking less facetiously, second paragraph is spot on. Dense, stupid, and most importantly pointless. Sometimes our species can be very disappointing.

they will be insured. They were financed privately and the taxpayer should not be expected to contribute to their replacement. (EDIT apparently streeting has committed to paying for this )

I assume it’s top of the front page news in the uk because it’s happened in the uk 

it won’t be top of the front page in Italy or Greece. There were attacks two weeks ago in Brussels and Amsterdam but they didn’t make the top of the front page in the uk.  The attack on the synagogue in the states did. (Until it was clear there wasn’t much news in it and it dropped away) 

 

it won’t be front page news by Wednesday. (unless they find the perpetrators or have a lead they want publicising)

Because it’s a hate crime! Did you say it’s odd when two  people entered a mosque with a hammer, and it was plastered all over the news? It’s a common theme isn’t it Jewish hate crimes are forgotten about in 12 hours

This whole matter is just so deeply frustrating. Such a pointless waste of innocent life, simply because some powermongers on all sides want to abuse their power in the name of their own self-interest and for the sake of a cause that is itself, at heart, pointless too.
