But you must have an impression of other clubs.   For instance Brentford or Brighton, perennial no marks, now respected as established Premier league clubs.  It doesn't mean you care about them.

We were respected.  We were the best of the rest.  We were trophy winners.

From big kahunas to laughing stock in the blink of an eye through our own mismanagement.

Yeah I have impressions but they’re not at all what their own clubs fans would think.

For example every time I do United away I think what an amazing club, you feel the history there all over the stadium. Holy Trinity, Munich Tunnel, it’s a proper club. But their own fans think they’re shocking.

Where as if I do Brentford or Bournemouth away, I think village club, crap stadium, won nothing, boring fans, modern football, and don't really respect them. But all of that is not reflecting on pitch performance at all nor what their own fans would think.

So I guess everyone’s perception of someone else’s club is just formed by their personal experience of them, which will not reflect at all how their own supporters would view them.

I think the majority of fans are loving our downfall.

With the exception of the super league 6 every club would love the success we’ve had over the last 10 years.

Now we’re in a different place, we’ve become a bit of a laughing stock

It's  matters a lot ... if you need to attract decent players and staff

No it don't. The idiots that run our club will just pay whatever to get whoever in.

We need a reset either Top sorts it or sells up now today.

Otherwise our reset will be administration and relegation.

Right now I don't give a fvck what others think. I see us entering the worst period in the club's history.

Not sure you can pay whatever... when in reality you haven't got a pot to pi55 in ... other than going into deeper debt ... which then throws more and more uncertainty on the club as a viable business when financially they look and act like amateurs

Yes you've just summed up my point.

I was chatting to a Man Utd fan in the work kitchen yesterday...

He asked "What league are you in this year again?"

Sums it up for me - our awful season and record setting number of games without scoring was galling for us, but barely a story in terms of the overall Premier League. Most people couldn't care less about who's in the relegation scrap or in Championship.

Basically, the football world views us as "not relevant".

That's interesting, I had completely the opposite impression when I went to Old Trafford. Horrid, plastic palace full of tourists and instagram drones, a few statues didn't really do their history justice. Didn't hear a single Mancunian accent until we left either. A ground I did once and that was enough for me - proper Paris Syndrome.

Honestly feel for 'proper' Man Utd fans. Not only are they priced out of attending their own games, but their club is a global laughing stock on top of it. And I don't have some weird schadenfreude because they were successful in the past - we're basically going through a less publicised version of exactly the same thing right now.

Yeah exactly, I’m glad you said that as it just demonstrates the point further, it’s so unique to the person. And our opinions will never reflect those opinions of fans of their actual club.

Spurs is another one, I think what Levy has done there is unbelievable ( I was taken to hospitality by a spurs supporting mate, loads of free pints at half time and it’s like terminal 5 in there) but they hate him. It is modern football though and I do prefer a Palace away end everyday.

What grounds do you like I’d be interested to know.

I think we are viewed much more positively by people in the wider community than we view ourselves

I don't know where you live not that it really matters.

But living in Plymouth yes the jokers are laughing at us. Real fans are ashamed for us.

The most common question.

How have you messed it up so badly?

60m for Mahrez 80m for Harry then all the other 30m+ players yet you are potless?

Definitely a feeling that we are ungrateful, we aren't as big as we think we are etc etc.

But let's face it, that attitude is also one that they all have at the top of the club and the happy clappers have enabled it until it's too late.

To be honest I don't want to be anyone's second club and I don't think we were that as much as people make out. A hell of a lot of fans are jealous that we have seen what we did.

No doubt we have surpassed all of our expectations and surprised many and been the envy of many ... sad thing is we didn't plan and push on .... never believed we could maintain a top 6 position... however at the very worst I strongly believe we should at least be competing in the premiership around mid table with a few surprise results .... definitely not where we find ourselves now ..

I have a lot of friends in some of the Mediterranean countries who became fans during our PL win season. They're all still watching every single game of the team no matter if we're in PL or Championship. Some of them are also organising trips to watch a couple of home games every season.

I think the impact when we won the PL and the FA Cup was big. They're all attached emotionally now and they care.

All these friends are from Spain, Italy and Greece and they have a different emotional mentality. Probably it's not the same in Germany or USA.

I've lived in Birmingham for the last few years and yes there definitely is the view on the outside of how have you messed it up so badly and jokes about that.

However the general view is still that we are a good team and should be back mid table in the prem before long.

What I meant when I said we are viewed better from the outside is that they don't see us as a complete mess of a club and still see us as a big draw

Where as inside the club from the fan base we can see the problems more clearly so have a much dimmer view of our situation

When you look at how big that gap is now, and how the likes of Bournemouth are mainstays. It's been a catastrophic decline.

That's the horror of it.

Not just the fact how self inflicted it's been. Even though it has been, there was so many times this could have all been salvaged. That first relegation was just.

I don't even think I'm ready to talk about it for 50 years

What's it matter.

Surely it's what we think that counts.

Personally at nearly 60yrs of age I've never felt so low about my club as I do now. It's even worse than the administration.

Totally agree !
Way worse than the Shipman era where we sold everything we had at least they balanced the books and kept the club within its means.
Dumb and Dumber sit there oblivious season after season with not a glimmer of effort being shown, but hey the only way out of this mess is to let them carry on because the losses over the last few years can’t continue and they’ll end up selling the club, give them enough rope and the end will come, it’s our only hope.

There is probably some mild curiosity about what happens to us next especially if we implode big time. If we get bogged down in the championship no one will think about us until we manage to get back into the premier league whenever that may be. Bit like Sheff Weds, no one has really thought about them for years but all of a sudden people are watching from afar of a potential mega meltdown.

I still see a fair few "they sacked Ranieri, now look where they are" lol yeah same place we ended up in 6 years later instead of 6 months
