His agents are probably continuing to keep an interest in him up for loan or sale. He won't get a loan in his last year so they need to get him out in Jan, sell him in the summer or make him sit in the stands and let him walk for compensation only. I'm not sure why he would sign another contract unless he was actually playing most games. 

That would have left us with only three fit centre backs so that assumption doesn't hold water.

If the rumours that Faes was being sold were true, it may well have scuppered Ben's potential loan.

Could it be that Cifuentes prefers Vestergaard over Nelson because they both have the same agent with Nelson having a different one. This used to go on in the past with some managers (not necessarily Leicester ones),

If he is picking his lines on this basis he has no business being a football manager.

I think his problem is that the other 3 CB's aren't capable of playing in a centre back pairing so we're having to play the two best individuals.

Certainly think the partnership element has something to do with continued reluctance to play Ben, and to a lesser degree Okoli.

No point in Seagrave if we appoint managers who don’t think long term and want to develop players - or hold their feet to the fire.

 

The next Nelson will also pan out this way and the usual suspects will be making the usual excuses. We have two training grounds at great expense, one costing £100m+ and then we just block the pathway to play proven bin bags like Faes and Vestergaard.

 

It’s all so dumb because it’s not even like there’s a short term benefit in the experienced player trade off currently. Had we been even slightly more academy tilted we may be in the PL still - Ward is our worst ever player and yet he got the nod over Iversen because ‘he was better with his feet’ and more likely because was expensive - despite Iversen being demonstrably the better keeper.

 

Academy integration should be an absolutely core part of the manager’s remit given our wage bill, average age, inability to recruit well etc etc but instead it’s treated as peripheral nice to have.

He hasnt played u21s football in years i dont think. He's well past that and it would be borderline disrespectful to send him back considering we allegedly fended off PL interest for him.

 

He's hit a brick wall in terms of getting into the first team though sadly.

Really annoyed about him not being involved. Saw a mate who's an Oxford fan the other day, and he can't believe he's not involved. Said he was excellent last season for them and would have him back in a heartbeat but thinks he's destined for the very top.

I’d be less bothered if he was getting minutes of some sort, the U21s have been on about 3 games a week the last few weeks and he’s not even trotting out for them. 
 

This lad has been frozen out of ALL football. It’s clearly an agent situation or some sort of stand off, it’s absolutely nothing to do with ability.

Agreed. He can’t be brought back in now with only 45 minutes of football, back in August. It’d be a disaster for him. He must just be counting down the days until January 1st!

The club have effectively frozen him out and this treatment of an academy player is shocking.

 

No room in the squad

No minutes in the U21s

 

He has to leave for the benefit of his career

 

We are meant to be nurturing a future player, instead we are ruining a promising career

He needs to be starting games now. Zero chance we go up so there is very little pressure in doing so. Let's build for the future and chop out the dead wood. Seems so obvious.
