Certainly remember a quiet evening.. maybe that was because it was a league cup game.. there should be pockets of people trying to get the crowd going is a lot of first timers will have tickets for this

I don't disagree but plenty of other fans sit down away especially at this level. A third of Northampton's end was sat last weekend

Also unrelated I saw a photo of our end at Notts in the 90s, 95% sat down.

One weird caveat to that game was it was when the all seater laws came in. Literally that summer. Might be a factor

watch some of the early premier league years and you’ll see Liverpool/United etc all sitting

I had some bad-breathed baldy getting in my face after the game yesterday, demanding to know why I was clapping the players when they came over to clap the fans at the end. I am certainly no happy clapper and was by no means happy with the overall team performance or result. but I thought the young players did well, and booing after the first match would certainly do their confidence no good.  So I was politely clapping as I walked down the stairs on my way out. Hardly enthusiastic endorsement - I was wholeheartedly booing the wasters at Portsmouth last season! This man was so rude, and I’m betting he wouldn’t have had the confidence to get in my face like that if I wasn’t a lone female.

Support in general is nothing like it used to be. You can go on any football forum and see similar threads.

 

Our away support is atrocious compared to what it used to be. Not helped by similar issues to what I’m reading here where there are a monopoly of supporters with access to tickets and most others locked out.

 

Doesn’t help that the younger supporters are more interested in getting into a cubicle to sniff up a bag of talc. 

 

With the significant Americanisation of football and the focus of clubs on bringing in as much money as possible to satisfy uncompetitive financial rules, it’ll only get worse.

 

Seems like a ridiculous thing to say, but kiosks in stadiums used to just be a revolving door of lukewarm burgers and pints of average lager. Now, you’ll see people walking off with a bento box, side of sweet potato fries and a tango ice blast… complete shift in demographic of the supporter.

There was more atmosphere in the turkish restaurant over the road than in the away end that day. Not that being at that soulless place exactly makes the hairs stand up on your neck. Hell, it took a last minute free kick from Max Gradel to even get us properly going last time out in League One.

Our away support has always been pretty tame. I remember having the same sort of discussions on this forum back in the last 2000s. Did seem to get a bit better 2013-2015, but was hardly groundbreaking. Fundamentally, no one has any pride in the city of Leicester (it's only going to get worse) and I think that's an important precursor to passionate support. Also most of our fans won't even live in the city and we have a more rural support compared to other clubs.

Leicester’s got its problems, and it has driven people away like other places in the country (sadly), but there’s still reasons to have local pride. For one, the identity of our city with the coat of arms & motto. On the point about rural support, couldn’t the same be said for Forest and Derby who are also bordered by counties?

I do think Leicester people being very self-deprecating is a part of it.

 

You go around and ask people from here what they think of it, the majority will just say "shit, move somewhere else" etc..

Pearson helped improve our support no end.

Disagree with most of the Northern cities. Leeds, Liverpool, Manchester and Newcastle love telling you they are from there. 
 

I do think Leicester is very fragmented when it comes to its city, suburbs and the surrounding towns. Lots of folk much prefer to say local for socialising compared to Nottingham, Leeds, Sheffield which all act as a hub for nearby large towns/cities.
