I genuinely think he needs his minutes managed. He missed a game in pre season and has had injury issues.

We lost quality on the left when Alves was subbed off for Watson. Alves on the left and Howell on the right would’ve been a good combo - both have similar attributes. Not seen enough quality yet from Watson but at least he works hard.

Martin is on thin ice. Called it the other week he'd find it very easy to drop Alves regardless of performances, the lads been our best player and he still dropped him.

 

We have strength in depth out wide but he's our no.1 winger currently.

He would be our no.1 attacking mid as well

 

If for whatever reason he wants to start Watson again, then he has to put Alves behind the striker

Should have been given far more than 10 mins today. Watson was having no luck. Alves being given at least 20 mins may have made more of a difference.

Was really disappointed he didnt come on till late, and he caused a lot of problems during his short cameo.

 

The only benefit of the double i am giving Brussel here is that there are 3 games in a week, and it seems clear that Alves is one of those that needs looking after a little.

 

Has to start Tuesday.

Maybe not popular but I thought he was pretty 1 dimensional. Cut inside, cross to far post rinse and repeat. Every single time and he was isolated one and one quite a few times. Would like to see some more variety as he clearly has the ability.

Can only think the reason he didn’t start today was because of a 3 game week and his injury record. He’s too good not to start.

He was on the pitch for 8 minutes.

 

Usually wingers barely touch the ball in 8 minutes of a game.

 

The fact that he was able to get enough crosses in in that time that you can complain about him doing the same thing over and over shows how effective he was and the impact he made. Crosses are usually a positive thing that will eventually lead to a goal.

 

You should wait for him to have a substantial amount of time on the pitch before complaining about variety, him doing anything in that time was enough.

Alves came on and instantly started actually going to the byline and putting it across - it had gone out but that is exactly what he did when JJ hit the bar

Watson did that all game yeah and when Alves came on he did the same except with a couple of stopovers beforehand but yeah agree he offered more than Watson did all game in 8 minutes, I probably just expecting too much of Alves
