There are definitely quite a lot of issues around the new UI - displays not scaling properly, being thrown back to the wrong page etc. - it really annoys me that the windowed mode doesn’t work properly

But I certainly have the “New FM itch”

Played it for 3-4 hours last night and I am currently sat at working really looking forward to getting home and playing it again

Yeah, there's loads of things that are poorly optimised or missing, but it's not half as bad as some people are making out. Will just takes lots of getting used to.

Interestingly windowed mode stops me getting awful coil whine in my pc, which I don't have on any other game. Personally hate windowed mode on FM but maybe I'll have to stick to that.

Tbf only reason I use windowed mode is because I only have 1 monitor so makes it a lot easier to jump between windows rather than having to alt tab each time haha

That'll be my first task when I get the game!

Pfft mutual termination, cowards, pay the extra and sack him.

I don’t know if the games just easy using Leicester or whether I’ve accidentally broke it with my first tactic.

Done a clean slate tactic messing around for my first one, high press, short passing/possession based system with high intensity.

Out of possession it’s a 442, in possession it’s a 4141 (one number 10 jumps to striker the other moves back to CM). The in possession shape changes with roles to a 3241 (Thomas IFB and Ricardo IWB).

Basically nearly gone the whole first half of the season winning every game, only drew a few.

Enjoying it so far.

The new UI is frustrating at times but I will get used to it

Feels like there are a lot of things missing (Best XI, club records etc) and I can't find a way to add other competitions to my flow (like the World Cup for example)

My first save is Leicester women and we had a great first season, top half finish in the WSL and won the FA Cup.

Oh well. I don't regret refunding it then Miles because I've paid nearly 30 years for every iteration (including CM) and I expect the quality to be there. I paid again this year to support the company even though the game will be available in a few days via the subscription service I have.

This is a massive failure and it will become even worse with the huge wave of refunds on 4th November. Not only the UI is an insult to all PC users but it looks like there's no coding of any decent cpu AI related to tactics which means the game is a walk in the park for everyone.

I guess their audience now is 10yrs old console kids.

I don't think you will see as many refunds as you are expecting

They have already had more pre-orders than they have ever had before anyway

I am pretty used to the UI now, not really having any issues with it at all now I know where everything is and no problem jumping around to get to what I want

This article says it's a brand new engine but fails to state that it's a brand new GRAPHICS engine. Unity provides UI and match simulation graphics (basically lighting) only.

The core game AI and data crunching stills runs on SI's legacy code so it's just adding a new coat of paint and - if the reception to the Beta is to be believed - not a very nice one.

Jacobsen's time is up and needs to go if the series is to actually improve. It's been stagnant for YEARS and overly reliant on legacy players which are slowly dwindling.

While this is true, the SI legacy match engine code was reworked to fit Unity and it seems the ME is now even worse than before. There's a great video on YT where someone exposes the ME with facts for 2 hours. Tactics simply don't work, it's all running on rails with pre-defined game results.

Idk what Miles is doing. Why on earth did he decide to actually kill the franchise? If he wanted to go the KONAMI way he should have been honest at least to the community. "I'm downgrading the game for handheld devices to reach more casual consumers".

Personally, I don't even care about the 3D engine. Give me the classic 2D one with tactics that actually work. Leave the rest in my imagination which is way better than a 3D match engine.

Whilst I appreciate there are many that still love 2D (and each to their own), I think this says a lot about the reasons for your overall stance on the game.

Not sure I'm fully getting what you are getting at here so sorry If I've misinterpreted... but 1) the game has been completely rebuilt from the ground up and 2) If it was just a reskinned FM24 there shouldn't be as many bugs as there are right now and the reception should be a good one (as FM24 was probably the best FM of all time)?

If you mean “everything under the hood (data, AI, logic) was rebuilt, discarded and replaced” - then no, that’s not the case. The data/tactics/match-engine backbone remains largely the previous SI code that has been used for years.

"A SI employee explained that the match engine hasn’t been re-written from the ground up … the Unity integration is about the visualisations and animations"

Also confirmed by Ben Carr

FM26 is the first in the series to use the Unity game engine for the graphics, visuals, match-day presentation. This "built from the ground up" is opaque marketing tosh that survives from the pre-FM25 disaster. A LOT survives from the previous games and it seems like SI has moved from their proprietary C++ codebase to a new Unity environment and not very well.

I know it's not quite as simple as this and I don't profess to be an expert by any means - but by that logic, FM26 is still the same engine introduced over 15 years ago, but with a new lick of paint.

What do you mean by my overall stance on the game? I'm nearly 50yrs old, I support and play this game since the 90s. Sometimes I even offer myself to the Leicester board as a real life manager for laughs. Alongside others I'm fully entitled to criticise the game and Miles.

I don't get what you mean.  This game, believe it or not, was part of my life and I'm telling this in a positive way because even though I had extremely long sessions playing it decades ago it didn't affect my social life.

So If Miles&Co want to kill the game like this it's sad. I own a console but as mainly a PC user this UI is just the middle finger to all of us supporting SI for decades. There's no excuse for Miles and because the pre-orders hit a record wait for the 4th November. The backlash will be huge and I won't be surprised if the game even is pulled out of Gamepass.

I’ve not played a huge amount yet, mainly due to setting up a new laptop yesterday and wanting to fix a few things such as adding/changing some images, but I am enjoying it.  I think it has helped that I spent time nosing around the UI before starting a save I was going to stick with.

I’m not finding the actual gameplay to be much different to FM24 which I only got a few months ago and was the first version I’ve played in years.  I probably wouldn’t have bothered with FM26 if it weren’t for the addition of women’s football which is really where my interest lies these days.

The strangest bug I’ve found so far was when I brought on a sub at half time and she played the second half still wearing her tracksuit.

Not good enough.

I personally edit the database and delete him from existence.

Can someone explain the potential ability? You have the solid gold star increase on potential from current ability but what does it mean if there are greyed out stars on potential ability

Essentially that your scouts/coaches (depending on whether your player or not and who you have assigned to certain duties) think they could possibly reach that level but aren’t sure.

It should either become a firm good star or disappear as they get to know the player. But obviously changes to the strength of your squad overall will also lead to ratings adjustments, as will injuries, training, etc.
