Horsfield and Andy Johnson iirc. 06/07 has to be our worst ever team.

His takeover came just in time. They were able to bring in much needed bodies in the final loan window,of which Horsfield was one.Box to box midfielder Jarrett another. There may have been more.Very likely we went down that season if there had been a delay in ownership.

Well actually, it could and it did - as MON proved previously and Ranieri, Rodgers and others have done since.

No mention on here about how Mandaric also drove "St Nigel" away - to Hull, of all places..

Or how he led us to our first (and hopefully only) descent to the third tier - despite having the Championship's biggest transfer budget that season.

Or of how only an acting masterclass by Harry Redknapp from the dock saved him and Mandaric from doing time for dodging taxes.

Some may cling to the myth that he was Leicester City's "saviour".

Others will continue to see him as a pound shop Marinakis.

He may not have been our saviour but he made sure we had a future and an amazing one at that selling us to Vichai who new how to run a successful business, it’s now down to Top to wake up and turn things around and take us back to where we belong back to the EPL !!

Please don’t use his death to have a go at the current owners.

Try and show a bit of class.

Comparisons being made between the two I’m simply pointing out the differences !

Best thing he ever did was to sell the Club to Vichai. Little did anyone know what would happen after Vichai's untimely death.

Best thing he ever did was appoint Nigel Pearson. Mandaric went through so many managers, poor ones too, but got it right with Pearson and thankfully Pearson's ideas and what he implemented allowed this club to become what it was. We stormed League One thankfully otherwise we could have been stuck there for years like a Leeds or Sunderland. That appointment is when the club started moving forwards.

Everything now has been ruined, mind.

It got better, ultimately, because of his involvement and Pearson’s work. We aren’t a club with ambitions of being anything before him, and you’re right he took us down but that was very much a drain we were circling regardless, and with significantly less resources had he not been there. We didn’t have investors scrambling to fund us at the time.

That’s not to say the 07/08 wasn’t honking, but we were somewhat deceivingly decent for a relegated team as well. We were four goals off a positive goal difference lol it was handled horrendously and the managerial roundabout was a joke, but we’d see the exact same with the Thais in the first couple season before Pearson’s return, granted with an even bigger budget insulating us from the real doldrums.

The fact of the matter is he stuck at it rather than lose interest after relegation, something many owners fail at; and we rebuilt into a brand new Leicester City under Pearson under his ownership-he’s the one who gave him the keys initially. He’s not a ‘saviour’ and I don’t think anyone has ever accredited him as one, but he got involved when no one else was going to, ultimately made the right appointment and got us where he wanted to be- and he sold when the time was right and he couldn’t take us much further. Something his successors could have learnt from.

Comparisons to Marinakis is a complete leap, Mandaric was a dodgy businessman no doubt but the Greek is an outright criminal. As from what I’m aware there was very little scandal during his time here. He was a dodgy bloke and an eccentric but he communicated with supporters it didn’t affect his stewardship here, so I’m not liable to care.

Finally: it was reported at the time that it was that Thais who wanted a ‘name’ as manager and it was their condition that Pearson went, when you look at who they’ve appointed since who weren’t internal hires that pattern has often held true and would seem very likely.

Ultimately a very very flawed bloke who did right by us in the end. RIP Milan.

I echo this, I think people forget how bleak things were. He was definitely a dodgy bloke but had a lot of charisma and eccentricity, maybe too much but it’s the complete opposite to what we have now, and he did eventually do right by us.
In regards to 07/08 we had the 2nd best defence in the league that season conceding 10 less than both top 2 sides. But we also had the worst attack in the league only scoring 42 goals, but in reality we should never have gone down

He bought the house opposite mine to use as a crash pad when he was here. Posted a very nice note through our door a few months later apologising for not introducing himself and invited us to the next home game for lunch. Said if we ever wanted tickets in the future to just give his PA a call.

'His' front door is still LCFC blue with a Fox head doorknocker.

Lovely man.

That's lovely.

Astonishing people can't pay tribute to a man who's died without then firing digs at the current ownership? There's another 300 threads to do that in!

You clearly weren't, and it's clear I'm not the only one that thinks that.

Afternoon lads, Pompey fan here.

Sad news for all of us who loved Milan.

He certainly transformed my club, and is still known as the best owner we've ever had.

Just wondering if they'll be any plan to commemorate Milan at the Leicester v Pompey game on the 18th?

Seen a post by Ian Stringer saying when he met Milan again after our title win, he told him that earned him an extra Million. He had it in the deal that if we went on to win the Premier League he gets more money? Mad if so.

For what contribution to warrant it, though?

Wonder if Stringer has burnt a lot of bridges at the club since him/Pearson.

Not saying he warranted it, I just can't believe he'd think about putting in a clause like that. Unless it was something like if the revenue becomes x amount he gets more money.

I don't think Stringer has any bridges left to burn when it comes to the club. I always liked him but he was lucky his employers were happy to keep him as long as they did, given he fell out with all the playing squad he was supposed to give us an interview with.

Did anyone else find it very very odd that we didn’t acknowledge Portsmouth at all before the applause?

I mean the words were brief and generic anyway but zero mention of his ownership of them and then their fans go on to sing loud and proud … felt very odd.
