Well actually, it could and it did - as MON proved previously and Ranieri, Rodgers and others have done since.

No mention on here about how Mandaric also drove "St Nigel" away - to Hull, of all places.

Or how he led us to our first (and hopefully only) descent to the third tier - despite having the Championship's biggest transfer budget that season.

Or of how only an acting masterclass by Harry Redknapp from the dock saved him and Mandaric from doing time for dodging taxes.

Some may cling to the myth that he was Leicester City's "saviour".

Others will continue to see him as a pound shop Marinakis.

This was all orchestrated by chief exec Lee Hoos. Invited Sousa to the Cardiff playoff semi and forced Nige out. Nige's digs at Burnley throughout the 2013/14 promotion season were personal attacks at Hoos who was then at Burnley. Nothing to do with Mandaric

Was this it not the case that King Power wanted a big name to start the project with (Sousa and then Sven) so Nigel was initially driven out, only to eventually realise the error of their ways?

It got better, ultimately, because of his involvement and Pearson’s work. We aren’t a club with ambitions of being anything before him, and you’re right he took us down but that was very much a drain we were circling regardless, and with significantly less resources had he not been there. We didn’t have investors scrambling to fund us at the time.

That’s not to say the 07/08 wasn’t honking, but we were somewhat deceivingly decent for a relegated team as well. We were four goals off a positive goal difference lol it was handled horrendously and the managerial roundabout was a joke, but we’d see the exact same with the Thais in the first couple season before Pearson’s return, granted with an even bigger budget insulating us from the real doldrums.

The fact of the matter is he stuck at it rather than lose interest after relegation, something many owners fail at; and we rebuilt into a brand new Leicester City under Pearson under his ownership-he’s the one who gave him the keys initially. He’s not a ‘saviour’ and I don’t think anyone has ever accredited him as one, but he got involved when no one else was going to, ultimately made the right appointment and got us where he wanted to be- and he sold when the time was right and he couldn’t take us much further. Something his successors could have learnt from.

Comparisons to Marinakis is a complete leap, Mandaric was a dodgy businessman no doubt but the Greek is an outright criminal. As from what I’m aware there was very little scandal during his time here. He was a dodgy bloke and an eccentric but he communicated with supporters it didn’t affect his stewardship here, so I’m not liable to care.

Finally: it was reported at the time that it was that Thais who wanted a ‘name’ as manager and it was their condition that Pearson went, when you look at who they’ve appointed since who weren’t internal hires that pattern has often held true and would seem very likely.

Ultimately a very very flawed bloke who did right by us in the end. RIP Milan.

A chaotic reign saved and thrived due to hiring Nigel Pearson and his team. Sounds familiar.

The guy did seem to genuine care about his clubs. RIP.

I Remember being excited when he was linked with us after doing so much for Portsmouth. We'd had several years of doing absolutely nothing and when he came in we actually started buying players rather than frees or loans.

Yes he made mistakes, all owners do but he certainly put his money where his mouth was! Never understand why he got so much criticism as I'm sure he lost more money than made when he fully sold to KP.

Thanks for rescuing us in our time of need, laid the foundations for the future. RIP Milan.

May he RIP. Seemed like a very charismatic and likeable man. But I don't quite buy the whole "saviour" narrative. His business model was to buy troubled football clubs on the cheap, make them semi-viable again, then quickly sell them on again to someone, anyone, for a nice profit, without much care for who he was selling to.

Sold Portsmouth to Gaydamak, who then proceeded to asset strip the club.

Sold Sheff Wed to Chansiri, who is now in the process of doing the same.

We were very fortunate that KP were not as bad in that regard (although it's turned very sour the last few years).

Absolutely gutted about this. The club had better honour him right vs Pompey in the next match.

Be embarrassing if we didn’t especially given his Pompey connections

Thank to Milan for his plan to leave us in safe hands and that certainly meant a lot to him, he was right up until Vichai’s passing.

Im  sure that he would have had thoughts on how we have been run in the past few years and it wouldn’t have be a positive one.

Milan v Khun Top =! Man v clueless Boy

You left us in a good position Milan

RIP

Exactly this. That was precisely his MO..

As for this 'he left us in good hands' narrative, it was more luck than judgement. I specifically remember him saying, when asked about if the new owners would invest in the squad, he replied 'presumably' ....he neither

knew nor cared. That wasn't his concern. Absolute brilliant deal he got for himself though from KP. How the fck he found repeatedly these foreign buyers is talent in itself.

All said, a great character and although he caused our only relegation to League one, he owned the error, stumped up and financed us out of it (albeit on loans but at least he had the cashflow to offer us)

We actually conceded the second least amount of goals!

Always remember the first game  under you seeing us beating Cov with Cadamateri scoring (not the Italian left back)Despite the revisionism on here at times, I shall always remember where I was working (Measham) when you said you would not leave this club in a worse state than you found it

You did exactly that

Milan Is A Leicester Fan

You can't remember it that well, Cadamarteri didn't score

Horsfield and Andy Johnson iirc. 06/07 has to be our worst ever team.

I maintain Andy Johnson could have been decent if he ever passed the ball forwards. Didn't quite figure out that aspect of being a midfielder though bless him.

like Skipp but without the paper round in Mordor
