Sounds interesting....what on earth did you get up to?

He was working TV that day, and I saw him as I was going into the stadium. Said hello and a little comment about the match (think it was a score prediction.) It was like the most 'obvious blank' and said something like 'Can't talk now' whilst stood on his own.
So I was stood in the que going into the ground about 10 foot away from him lol

I once bumped into Richard Briers about 20 years ago in Chiswick. Absolute gentleman and was happy  to stop for a chat. Could not have been more friendly . A much missed actor and made sit com look easy.

Ian Wright.

Mo Farah.

Both just come across as absolutely lovely genuine blokes.

Mo, yes.  Not so sure about Ian Wright.

Some years ago, he was being interviewed on the pitch at half time in a Arsenal v Leicester match.     Can't remember exactly what he said .. something about Spurs I think, but it wasn't just a bit of "banter".   There was a really nasty streak to what he said.   A really OTT comment, and just weird, like there was no need for it.

No.   As I explained, it wasn't just "banter" or "just giving it back" ... it was more than that.       Obviously the Gooner fans loved it, whooped and cheered.    But it really was a bit naughty.    I remember saying to the bloke I was with "if that was a Leicester player saying that about Forest, I wouldn't be laughing".   And I absolutely detest Forest.

Is this a "legends" topic or a "people I'd like to meet" topic?

For me, a "legend" would be someone who fought for change for humanity, for society, for politics,  for freedom.

And then, ultimately gave their life.

Martin Luther King.

For me, a "legend" would be someone who fought for change humanity or society or politics for the better whilst metaphorically sacrificing their own life and comforts.

Martin Luther King

It can be whatever you want it to be my friend. Just thought a thread celebrating generally good people would be a nice addition!

MLK is a solid choice.

A legend is that Indian immigrant cancer specialist at LRI who took over my mothers treatment and got on her a trail of experimental drugs which extended her life by 15 years, when other cancer doctors we saw just proscribed what was there.

It’s not about being famous, or changing the world, it’s about impacting real people’s lives like that man did for my family.

That got me thinking. My Dad fell out of bed when he was a baby and twisted his gut. He was saved by a doctor working in Lambeth. Don't know his name. All Dad knew was he was an Indian chap and this was in early 1915 during WW1.  Just to think no Dad, no me etc etc.

Chris Hoy and Steve Redgrave.          Both sporting legends, and both seem pretty decent/nice people

Steve Claridge.  Signed my shirt for my window cleaner just before Christmas....

Actually....

My window cleaner is a bit of a legend for getting it signed for me

This. I’d like to nominate Sir JVT, Boston United STH & the voice of reason and common sense in the midst of the mayhem surrounding COVID. I’ve got a lot of time for Sir Chris Whitty too.
