Corky Posted 9 September Posted 9 September 4 hours ago, ClaphamFox said: It will never happen because our club never communicates in this way, but I would be genuinely fascinated to hear Top, Rudkin or McCarron come out and explain the logic behind appointing Martin. Our problems of recent years have been clear to anybody who has watched us: mental fragility/low confidence, leading to chronic defensive frailty and an unerring tendency for heads to drop the moment anything goes wrong. We’ve been absolutely terrible at preventing other teams from scoring goals against us. Likewise, Russell Martin’s record as a coach is there for anybody to see: in each of his four full seasons in the EFL with MK Dons, Swansea and Southampton, his teams conceded more than 60 goals. When he was sacked by Southampton they’d conceded 36 goals in 16 PL games and Rangers had managed only one clean sheet in seven when they sacked him. In other words: Russell Martin has never shown any ability to coach a defence. Not once. Most people would look at our problems of recent seasons and conclude that we needed a manager with a proven track record of organising a defence, instilling psychological robustness and being pragmatic enough to change things when it’s not working. Yet we appointed Russell Martin, who does not bring any of those things. Just how did our board conclude that he was the man to solve our problems? Are they in possession of some secret knowledge unavailable to us mere mortals? If so, are they willing to share any of it with us? It is the lazy idea that we want to play like Man City without realising we lack the coaching, fitness levels and other aspects like dark arts, tactical fouling that they specialised in. Martin has a great PR machine, backed up by Guardiola patting him on the head after beating him, and therefore the idiots in charge think he is perfect for the job.

Came out with the old Lineker line about he’d take our position now if asked 10 years ago if it meant we’d win the league etc. Then said only half the fan base have turned on King Power. Absolute joke that this is the representation of us that the media invite forward to national coverage. Why do we bother continuing as a club if we never move on from a decade ago? If everyone is just accepting of this position forever we might as well pack up. A nonsensical attitude. Too many are watching this failure and are ok with it. I don"t think any other fanbase of a reasonable sized club acts in a similar way. Do Blackburn fans accept their current position because of 1995? West Ham fans are angry yet won a European trophy 3 years ago. We are an outlier. Will never understand it. 5

Popular Post AjcW Posted 9 September Popular Post Posted 9 September He could learn a thing or two from Daniel Farke. He was on the edge of his premier league career being over and realised he couldn’t persist with his tried and tested formation/style. Leeds haven’t looked back since the switch and he’s guaranteed himself future Prem gigs by showing he can adapt if needed! 9

Like saying you’ll happily be homeless because you owned a house once. Ignoring the fact you lost that house because your wife ran off with another man due to your erectile dysfunction developed by your excessive drinking and you gambled all your money away. Had enough people not had this attitude, maybe you’d have managed to make sufficient of a stand to intervene and get Rogers sacked earlier, people like Cooper never appointed, or Top selling the club at a healthy position in the PL. 7

Popular Post ozvaldo Posted Thursday at 11:48 Popular Post Posted Thursday at 11:48 I'm not even angry at Brussell Martin. We all knew what we were getting when the club hired him. He's got one way of playing and nothing else. Rightly or wrongly (wrongly) this is how he goes about his management style. It's, yet again, on Top and Rudkin. They knew this too - one style of play, no Plan B. It's not as if he's the sort of manager who's historically mixed up styles of play to find a way to beat teams, and then decided to throw that out the window the second he came to us. He's doing exactly what the rest of us know he would. He's clearly not a good manager. Too rigid. Too stubborn. Too arrogant. And he needs to leave our club. But the blame lies on those twats in the boardroom. 4 1

But the blame lies on those twats in the boardroom. It always has, all managers, all the recruitment or in many recent cases the lack of, it have led us to our lowest point. We’re just not well run and everything boils down to their strategy and decisions. For example, we allow the signing of Cullen while we know it’s a RM signing (his mate) why would we ever consider it and yes why sign RM himself - we all knew what he was and many moaned when linked previously. It bores you to tears as you know what comes next. I can’t see him turning it around (even though I hope he does) but I also can’t see the board recruiting exactly what we need should they sack him. They’re incapable and will focus all their efforts on a manager that plays this style and who presumably aces his PowerPoint presentation. 1
